Question for a friend
If you have PCOS, is temping still an accurate way to determine if you are ovulating? TIA!

Re: Question for a friend
it was for me. that along with OPKs helped me determine that i was having off the chart LH surges followed by no ovulation/temp shift. it also helped me figure out when i did ovulate, even though my cycles were ALL over the place and unpredictable.

Re: Question for a friend
I have PCOS and my temp never changed, because I never ovulated on my own. I have only ever ovulated with a trigger shot. Good Luck

Re: Question for a friend
Yes, temping should work to tell her if she is ovulating or not.

Re: Question for a friend
It should definitely work to show her whether or not she's actually ovulating.

Re: Question for a friend
it depends how severe she has pcos. temping opks and even the cbefm did nothing for me.. i always got false temp spikes, false positive opks and high peak readings when i wasnt ovulating. i had high lh levels which showed i ovulated when i really didnt.
for some it works, others it doesnt.

I agree with this. The opks and cbefm will not work if she has high lh. I have this problem, but the temping should tell her she is not ovulating if that is the case. Her temps will go high and low and kind of be all over the place. She will not have a clear temperature rise. To be honest though, as someone with PCOS who tired to temp, it didn't really work for me because I just felt like I never knew for sure. I ended up at the RE right away because I needed to know exactly what and when things are happening. Temping might be her first step to tell her she has a problem with ovulation if she sticks with it.

This is great information - and kind of what is happening with her. I'll show this to her, thanks!!

ITA. OPK and CBEFM told me that i had high LH - but temping is what told me i wasn't ovulating as a result of the LH spikes. IMO temping does work for PCOS as far as showing if ovulation occurred, but it can't be used as a predictor tool since PCOS generally leads to really wacky unpredictable cycles. also to temp successfully you need to see the entire cycle to really pinpoint things. you cant really take it day to day like non-PCO women.
