changing pulls on cabinets
how hard it is? are they all standard?
how do you go from a "pull" to a handle? do you have to repair the first hole and then drill two new for the handle?

Super easy and usually makes a big difference.
If you go from two holes to one, you can fill and re-drill them (if painting/refinishing them is easy enough); or you can purchase a decorative backplate to mask the old holes.

awesome! we will be changing the pulls in our new home ... but what is this "back plate?" does it go on the inside of the cab? I guess I could google

I changed the knobs on my kitchen cabinets and bout them from here : My Knobs (I know, it sounds dirty). There is a showroom in Carle Place, but you have to order them. Great selection, almost overwhelming, but a fairly decent price.
I bout these :
Bought 25 of them for just over $100 with free shipping. Oh, and this is a backplate with handle attached :
