NY'ers who made the move to either NC or PA...
Hi My DH and I are ready to make the move out of NY. For those that live in either state, what are some area's to look at? Do you regret the move?
Thanks!

Dh & I will most likley be moving to PA in 2-3 years. We like Bucks & Montgomery Counties. Good schools, affordable houses, nice areas, and not too far from NY- about 2-2.5 hours.

This is where we are thinking about retiring. Not too far from a major City.

We are still thinking about it and are considering the South Charlotte area (Ballantyne) zip code 28277 and Union County (just to the south) areas of Weddington, Marvin, Wesley Chapel and Waxhaw.

Re: NY'ers who made the move to either NC or PA...
I live just outside of Raleigh in Apex. I like the Apex, Cary area. My sister lives in Charlotte by the university. I would also consider Wilmington or Asheville...Wilmington is ocean front so you might have to worry about weather but so nice to be on the beach. the beaches are white sand, very pretty. Asheville is a mountain, hippy sort of town with lots of culture.
Where I live now is a great family friendly place. EVERYONE is from up North-LI, Upstate, MA etc. It can be very religious here, but plenty of people are not religious as well. There is lots to do here, culture, beautiful outdoor activities(greenbelts, parks, etc) GREAT schools, less expensive housing etc.

My brother lives in Weddington, it is beautiful there. I think his area is a little expensive but cheap compared to NY

don't regret the move one bit.....HOWEVER there are some things I am not sure I will ever get used to about the south.....it can be a little too slow and laidback when it comes to work ethics and getting jobs done
they drive worse here too!!!!

We've been looking into PA (Bucks County. Some areas we've been looking at are New Hope, Doylestown, Newtown and Solebury) and a number of my family members have moved there (Reigelsville, Erwinna and I believe Oreville.)

no jobs, no car..just pregnant and a moving truck i had never even been here before.
nothing like negotiating car prices when you pull up in a u-haul. he found a job in 3 weeks. what industry are you guys in?
In charlotte, unless you have $$$...I would look into the outskirts. huntersville, harrisburg, matthews, ballantyne, marvin, weddington, waxhaw.
or fort mill, sc...which is 2 miles away from most cities i listed, just cheaper.

My brother and SIL live in the same area - looking to buy in Cary. They made the move back in December and LOVE it. Both have better jobs than they did here in NY and they are probably the happiest they've ever been. It was a great move for them.

Re: NY'ers who made the move to either NC or PA...
We starting looking at the out skirts of Charlotte, NC but, the only issue is my area of work (Medical Field)is a hit and miss . I think I found one or two openings. I'm not finding a whole lot of jobs in my area, where as I searched around Cary and jackpot! I want to SCREAM!!

My brother bought a bank owned, 3 year old house, people just walked away from it. It is gorgeous, but out of my price range, he got it for alittle over 500,00 and according to webistes we have checked could sell for 750,000.
