Do you end up calling them? Or do you figure, forget it, if they can't even bother to show up then it is probably a sign of their work ethic?

what do you do?

Yup. I actually had a company call me THREE days after the missed appointment saying that they missed it (with no excuse) but wanted to reschedule. I told them no way.

no way.

If they can't show or call for a potential job then they lost my business.

In this economy you figure this wouldnt be an issue!! It happened to us but we were given an estimate he just never called us back to tell us when he can do it.. so I figured if he couldnt be reliable from the start then he wouldnt be at all.

Its bad business, recommendations are very important for your business.

Same.

I don't call them. If they lack professionalism BEFORE they even start the job, I can't imagine if there is a problem.

1st impression does count.

I would never call them back.

If they can't show up for an estimate, they will NOT get a second chance.... Who's to say they won't show up for the job after you left a deposit? We've had people show up an hour late and turn them away. It's just part of doing business....

This happened to me when I was looking to get my floors done. I had an appt. with this guy who never showed, when I called he said, ok I'll be there in half hour... and still never showed a second time!!!! At that point I was done with him & moving on.

Re: If you requested an estimate and they are a no-show...

When we first moved in we had someone come to give us a quote on converting to two-zone heating, and an arborist come to give us a quote on treatment, trimming, removal, etc. on several trees. In both instance they spend at least an hour looking at the job at hand, taking notes, measurements, etc. and they said they would get back to us with a quote - never heard from them! After spending the time they didn't even bother to follow up with the quote for the job.

We lined up a surveyer to come for a final survey after our renovations and they supposedly came to do the work. The woman in the office kept saying that he had been here but just had to draw up all the details. After calling for 3 weeks I gave up - never got the survey or a bill.

Maybe it's not a bad economy after all - just a lot of bad business people.

my thoughts exactly, I had a roofer not show up at the scheduled appointment, call me 3 days later and leave a message that he was driving around looking for my house. Didn't use him...
