Ultrascreen today...what to expect?
My doctors office is that great at explaining things, just wondering what I should expect today. I know they do measurements and prick your finger?...Do they give you any results today? or call? or only call if there is something wrong?
Of course I'll ask a million questions when I go, but that's not until this afternoon!

Re: Ultrascreen today...what to expect?
I'm assuming you're at about 12 weeks?
They will take blood and weight and blood pressure, but that's the boring stuff.
The AMAZING thing was watching the baby up on the screen moving all around! Mine was MUCH more exciting that the other sonos that I had at my OB (my ultrascreen was done at the Peri-Natologist). My DH wasn't able to come, and afterwards I was so upset because we saw so much more than usual.
My doc told me right then and there that the baby looked "normal", thank God. But he also saw a lesion in my placenta that had to be watched and sent me to a lab for thrombophilia testing, so that stuff upset me that day. (now they just monitor me every 2 weeks).
But the best part was all the one-on-one time with LO!!!

Re: Ultrascreen today...what to expect?
Ultrascreen is 2 parts: bloodwork and sono, which are combined to give you a risk ratio.
I had my blood drawn a week in advance and was able to get my compiled results the same day. if not, I assume they give you the results of the sono and you get your #s after the bloodwork comes in.
On the sono they look for markers like the measurement of the nuchal fold (on the neck), the presence of a nasal bone, etc. I'm not sure what the bloodwork tests for!
My baby was cooperative so the sono was a lot shorter than I expected (15 minutes max) but I've heard it can take longer if they have trouble getting the measurements needed.
We also got a gender guess

Re: Ultrascreen today...what to expect?
I'm 36 weeks now and I think this was by far my favorite doctors visit this pregnancy. I couldn't believe how much LO looked like a REAL baby! I guess I was still expecting it to look blobish but I was so amazed and happy to see an actual baby jumping around in there. I was so upset that DH missed the apt . He got totally lost on the way to the office and missed everything. Try to have your DH/SO there if possible, it's such an amazing appointment!
