When it rains it pours...SPR
Soooo I've been posting sbout accepting a new job and when i should tell my new job that I'm pregnant.
Well...I just got a call from a gov't agency for a job. I had applied through usajobs.gov a long while ago and have been going through the steps but kinda thought it wouldn't happen since it's the gov't and sometimes that's like a black hole.
The job would be 1/2 the salary I make but it would be 4:30pm-1am shift. Which means I would stay home with DS and DC (when he/she arrives) during the day and then head to work. The perk is that it's 10 min. away from my house. Right now I commute 2.5 hrs each way.
What should I do??

id take it, i mean u have to be saving in traveling time, and also, if anything were to happen, you can spare time to leave and check on things ya know?

Re: When it rains it pours...SPR
i think i would take it for the commute alone, assuming you can afford to cut your salary in half.

Are there benefits involved as well (pension, etc.) because it is a government job?
I would take it! Less of a commute, so you're saving on travel costs, plus saving on childcare costs.

I was wondering the same thing. If there are then it would help alleviate the blow of the salary decrease.
Of course that is assuming you can afford the salary decrease in the first place. If you can't afford it then I would think there really is no question.

ITA. it really depends on whether you can afford the decrease or not.

2.5 EACH way
I would take it, especially if it meant you would have more times with your kids and only 10 minutes away...gas is nuts right now!

Would you be saving in childcare expense? Because that would be huge for 2 kids. Also, keep in mind that I don't think FMLA applies when you ahve been employed for less than a year?
I think if you can swing the cash decrease...factor in gas, trains, etc...and perhaps childcare, it would be worth it to be with the kids all day.

Re: When it rains it pours...SPR
I just posted this in parenting but wanted to post the saem here as an update.
So after talking it over with DH and thinking about it I think I'll still be doing the long commute.
I'm not sure I can handle being with DC's all day then heading to work at night. SAHM is the hardest job hands down now matter what anyone says and then to go to a full-time job I'm not sure if I can handle it right now.
The job I already accepted will allow me to work from home 2x's week so I'll be home much more than I am now.
Don't get me wrong..I'm still torn but after taking a long hard look at myself and how I might feel adjusting I'm not sure I can do it.
Thank you girls for all the great advice. Who knows maybe down the road this opportunity will come up again and I'll be able to take it at that point.
