interesting. I'm not big yet but especially with bloat I am pretty obviously pregnant. I've never had anyone get up for me on the subway...

I've given out a few dirty looks though!

well there's hope for my train I guess but I am not surprised at all by the E and F.

it doesn't say it on the seats but i'm pretty sure they either make periodic announcements or flash that you should give up your seat for elderly pregnant or disabled. it remains to be seen though; i'm not super obv pregnant yet so I guess we'll see.

I think I could count on one hand how many times someone has offered their seat to me on the subway during both of my pregnancies!!

I went to an Olive Garden once and seating room was at a premium. Two people had their table called and got up off the bench. I went to sit down and two younger girls pushed me out of the way so they could sit

very interesting.. i was wondering how my commute is going to go when i get obviously preggo

on a side note, i've noticed that LIRR riders are generally just as rude, if not more than subway riders... so that should be an interesting experiment too!

I was stuck on a subway today for nearly 45 minutes (it broke down, I am usually on it for 5-10) and not ONE person offered me a seat (I am 30 weeks pregnant, there is certainly no confusion as to whether I am or am not pregnant)

Re: one woman's 4-month study on subway riders giving up their seat for her while pregnant

no one has ever gotten up for me.

i've had people stare at my stomach... look up at me and then pretend to go to sleep more times than I can even count. And entire row would do the same thing!!!

NEVER has a single person offered me their seat.

ETA: I used to take the L train.

And I love the part that says other commuters will think you are jerky... umm NO they won't bc they are doing the EXACT same thing!!! They don't get up either!!!

ETA AGAIN:
What they did do a few times.... going home from work and having to stand would get hard, esp if the train was slow or got stuck for a few minutes... my back would hurt sooo bad that I would have to bend forward to stretch it out. The people in the seats who def knew I was pregnant would watch me. Not give up their seats. BUT then when their stop came... they would grab me to take their seat. OH GEE THANKS!! IDK if that's better or worse. So you clearly knew I was preg and needed a seat and was uncomfortable... yet you remained in your seat until your precious stop and grabbed me then!! THANKS!!! that happened to me while pregnant too, on the train. I had people push me out of the way to get a seat!!! It's absurd and insane!!! More than once I was even reading a pregnancy book.... so even if you ignored my stomach... you saw the book a hole.

they do have those announcements. it says it on the loudspeaker thing, and on the electronic overhead thingy.

no one pays attention to it anyway. they don't care. they just want a seat for themself and screw everyone else.

good luck!

I am only 14 weeks pregnant but you can definitely tell I am pregnant ( I look like I am 5 months already). I used to take the D train home. The train will be so crowded by the time it reaches Bleecker (where I get on) then it will stop at Canal St. and OMG! the people in that stop will push you with not problem...pregnant or not. I started taking the express bus home 3 weeks ago. I prefer to pay a bit more and have my trio be safe than risk it. Not worth it!!
