How to compromise?

Has anyone ever conflicted with their DH on where to buy? I have my heart set on one area in particular and my DH has his heart set on buying a newer home.

The area I am set on is an old neighborhood, stone colonials, old charm etc. with no new development.

How do you compromise on what you both wanted?

OMG YES!!!!!!

DH keep insisting we need to check out these sh*tty houses in an area I will not mention - just b/c you can get a house for a decent price near the water. I do NOT like this area at all. the houses in our price range are in HORRIBLE condition or tiny bungalows. but he keeps sending links to me "look where this one is" and I can't even get past the picture!!!!!! Re: How to compromise?

our only disagreement is about a pool

I want one- he doesn't

we compromised - if the house has a pool it's ok

but if it doesn't we wont put one in

he wants to live on the water- but I could care less about that- I would rather buy a nicer house not on the water for the same price- but I gave up on this one

Sounds like my DH. Calling me from lots, so excited and I refuse to even consider living in the area.

I've agreed to drive by an area tonight, to appease him since he told me "I always look at your houses".....

Hopefully it will keep him quiet for a bit.

We had a problem with that too. He wanted north shore, I wanted south shore. No real good way to compromise on that.

We ended up on the north shore but our house has most of the amenities that I wanted. Now he wants to move off LI and I say no way.

Never ends, does it?

Re: How to compromise?

I had to convince my FH that the town that I wanted was ideal. Once we met with a realtor and started looking at houses in that area, he started to like it just as much as I do. Now I think he may like it even more than me!!!

I would try to be open minded and convince him to do the same. you never really know what kind of house you will fall in love with until you really start looking a lot. We both thought that we would want a very open floor plan with a great room, but our house is more traditional with seperate rooms (it was built in 1938). We both LOVE it now. also, once we did narrow down the town we had particular sections in mind and we ended up in the section that, at first, seemed the least desirable to me.

Yes we had the same dilemma. I wanted S Shore he wanted N Shore. We ended up not being able to afford either and ended up mid island nassau..

Good compromise...nice house..good investment.

Now-on to the home improvements!

Buying a house was the most stressful thing that happened in our relationship to date.

Re: How to compromise?

We agreed on the area, and DH was all excited because close friends of ours live there - we even considered bidding on a house 3 doors down from them. But in the end, the houses were "too old, too creepy" for DH. They were gorgeous early 1900 late 1800 homes, but DH was looking for Vampires in closets... Chat Icon Chat Icon In the end we ended up finding a house we both fell in love with in the next town over (1.5 miles from the other town). We ended up in a house I never thought I'd live in (ranch) but it has a little bit of what I was looking for and a little bit of what DH was looking for, it turned out to be a perfect compromise.

Re: How to compromise?

We agreed on the area of where we wanted to live and pretty much the type of house we wanted. He wanted a garage and unfortunately we don't have one. If we plan on staying here after 5 years than we will be building a garage.
