When do you decide how many to transfer?

Is it the morning of et? Just wondering. Also, how did you decide? Obviously, we'll discuss it with the RE. Just wondering what other's experiences were?

I am unexplained IF going through my first IVF cycle. We'll have to see how many eggs are retrieved and the fert rate of course. I think DH and I are pretty set on transferring two. My RE said it's too early to discuss right now, but she would transfer one...maybe two. Definitely no more. I am 31. I only have one shot at IVF with my insurance, so I really need this to work. Not to mention, we'd be thrilled with twins. Of course, as my RE always says, the goal is not to just get pregnant, but take home one healthy baby.

Re: When do you decide how many to transfer?

We had 2 in our original transfer plan, but on the morning of the transfer, my RE strongly reccomended to us that we only transfer one because it was of supurb quality and she was fairly confident it would take...I was at risk for OHSS because I produced so many follicles and a multiple pregnancy would have made it much worse...

In general I think you have a "plan" and then depending on the quality and number of viable embryos you have will ultimately determine how many they put back the morning of ETChat Icon

My RE's office only transfers 2. It has something to do with CT fertility mandate. Good luck!!!! Chat Icon

My docs did the same. We had a plan, but discussed it the morning of the ET, once we had all the stats back. Our first round of IVF we transferred one, all of the other times, we transferred two.

I hope everything goes well! Chat Icon

Re: When do you decide how many to transfer?

im 29 and our plan was two the entire time. since i ended up with a lot of great embryos to choose from, dr. B mentioned MAX of two. he never mentioned only one and we never considered it. ended up being a good thing cause i got pregnant with both but only one grew into a baby, the other remained an empty sac.

Im 34 and my plan was 2 the entire time. Even after they sat us down and told us that they had "some of the greatest quality embies they have seen in a while" They wanted us to only transfer one but I insisted on 2...Im currently 15w pregnant with ONE

My RE said it best to me when we were discussing one or two..."What would make you more upset...if you dont get pregnant or if you get pregnant with twins" Obvi the answer is not preg so I stuck to my guns and put 2 perfect embies back and just the one stuck

I am 34, dx, unexplained- and we always decided morning of. After knowing how well the embies were developing and what we had to work with quality wise. Although 2 was always recommended.

First 2 times we transferred 2.

Third time, even tho my RE advised 2, we pushed for 3.Chat Icon All three took, but only 2 developed.

Re: When do you decide how many to transfer?

First transfer 2 = BFN
Second transfer 3 = chemical
Third transfer 3 w/pgd = DS
--------
First transfer 3/pgd = BFN
Been trying for months to start a new cyle. Have already spoken to RE and he has agreed that we will transfer whatever we get, be it 2 or 6.
--------

the above plan is based upon my age and the past quality of my embyos. Usually you have a plan and can adjust depending on what the quality of the embryos are the morning of the ET
