Need Suggestions...

Gianna is 17 months old and this past weekend she learned how to climb out of her crib. Do you think that she is to young for a toddler bed? DH think's we should convert her crib to the toddler bed and I think she is to young. She will think it is a free for all and she will be playing. I got the crib tent so now she cant climb out but now she screams (not cry) everytime we put her into the crib. Do you have any other ideas that we can tryChat Icon

I don't think 17 months is too young to convert. Chat Icon

Caiden went into his big boy bed at 20 months. I would of done it sooner if necessary.

Re: Need Suggestions...

Both my boys were in toddler beds before 2. Id say like 20-22m, and I would have had no problem doing it sooner.
They both adjusted well and we never had the "walking around the house" that we were so scared of. we never even had to put a gate on the door.

But that might be a good start if you think she's very curious and might wander. Def put a gate on her door. Nail down all furniture, take out anything that she can climb or get hurt on. tie up curtain strings if there are any. just look around for ANY possibilities.
My boys' room is very simple and not much in there right now.
They are also not in there alone for long. ITs not a "cool hangout"bedroom, and I made it that way, so that they dont destroy EVERY room in the house Chat Icon they only have minimal toys, books and their beds in there.

When they wake up they DASH out of there to come out and play.
I guess with GIanna it depends on what room she is used to playing in and how she adjusts to sleeping in the bed as a toddler bed. Im assuming it wont be that much of an adjustment since its her same crib, just converted right?
I say you try it. Its better that she can get down, than climb out of her crib and fall/jump from that high.. good luck ! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Need Suggestions...

I think if they are at the point of climbing out I think you should put them in the toddler bed. You don't want them getting hurt trying to climb out.

I think it is worth a try if she is already climbing out. BTW can we please get some pics of Gianna. Haven't seen enough of her lately.

Nicole the toddler bed sounds like the next step. If you think that she will wander put a gate infront of her door and PLEASE PLEASE strap down all of her furniture in case she tries to climb on it. I have been nagging my dh to start doing this now before we HAVE to worry about it. He doesn't want to put holes in the wallsChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and I don't want a dead or badly injured babyChat Icon

Re: Need Suggestions...

We put a toddler bed rail up on my sons convertible crib to help him adjust.. It was much better than BOOM---WAHHHHHHHHHH everymorning!

He was about 18 mos as well.. a little younger if I am not mistaken, and it did take a few months to get him used to it, and get us used to his newfound freedom.. lol
