So tired of "no progress!"
I went to my dr yesterday and again, no progress. I'm 40w1d and the sonogram dr told me that if I made it to my due date the baby would definitely be over 9lbs. My dr told me that I'm probably going to have to have a scheduled c-section because of the baby's weight - he said they fear shoulder dysphasia in bigger babies and that it's really dangerous. I feel so sad - I was really hoping for a natural birth. I skipped over every page about c/s in all of my books because I felt like it wouldn't happen to me. I'm so scared of the recovery - I've been reading such scary things and it sounds so so painful.
You make it through the long nine months and you think the worst is over...now I have to wait and see how this is going to turn out.
I probably sound like a baby to anyone who has had a c/s before...I just hate not knowing what to expect.
I have to go today for another non stress test and for a sonogram to see how big the baby is. My regular dr is off for the rest of this week so I can't even be scheduled this week for a c/s if she's tremendous. I just want to meet this little girl already!

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
Believe me, I know the feeling!! DS made me wait until 1 week passed my DD and then we had a C-Section bc he wouldn't budge. Hang in there... your little munchkin will be here soon and it will all be worth it!
As for the C-Section... I was extremely nervous too but after it was over, I felt so relieved! I had no pain (just minor soreness) and was up and walking the next morning when they took my cathedar out. Recovery was a breeze and I didn't have to take any painkillers. Not even a Motrin! By the time I got home, I was up and down stairs like nothing ever happened. Just make sure you don't over-do it. Nowadays, they inject pain meds into the spinal with the anesthesia so the pain is very minimal. Good Luck!!

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
awww I was just thinking of you this morning, I was hoping ur LO was out by now!
Hang in there, I know...easier said than done, you've come a long way, a few more days and you'll have her in ur arms.
I'm also terrified of a c-section, thinking about it makes me want to cry, but we can handle whatever gets out LOs out of our bellies and into our arms the safest way.
Praying for you

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
I know the baby will be over 9 lbs and shoulder dysplasia is a concern but can you still have a vaginal birth, is it required you have to have a c-section for a 9lbs+ baby? My MIL had both my DH and his sister at almost 10 lbs vaginally just fine.

I'm sorry your LO doesn't want to budge I have the same fear and I really want to avoid a C/S also. I guess some things are out of our control. Try to think of the bright side, none of this will matter anymore once you have your baby in your arms! And theres a chance the sono tech was just wrong with her prediction. See what they say with this one. Good luck!

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
aw, yes, you & I were due on the same day and both still WAITING It really IS so incredibly frustrating. I have another Dr appt tomorrow and then if I don't go into labor before that, I'll be induced on Sunday. I've also thought about the possibility of a c-section (because I know sometimes inductions can lead to that). But, really, try not to stress about it. I've heard VERY good things about c-sections, honestly. It doesn't seem like the recovery is as horrid as we imagine it to be. I truly do think that you will be fine with whatever direction you have to go (I know I will be too).

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
If you end up with a c-section, it's really nt that bad. I think the worst part of all of it was the lidocaine before they did the spinal, just burned a little bit. They make you very comfortable for the c-section. I never felt anything just a little tugging and then my little DD wailing. I was up and walking around the next day, getting in and out of bed fairly easily. Those wedge pillow for home were the BEST for getting in and out of bed. Hospital beds are usualy at an incline so it wasn't bad getting in and out.

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
I was 42 weeks when DS was delivered. I had a failed induction leading to a c-section. I was defintely upset.
But you need to keep in mind that having a c-section does not make you any less of a mother!
In fact, I am going for the scheduled c-section for number two because I had a great recovery from number one.

I think the rest of us February Moms feel your pain. I'd say hang in there but I think we are all going insane. I believe a lot of us are going to be having an extended stay.

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
I wouldn't rush to a c-section... many women have successful vaginal births with 9lb+ babies. My petite, small framed friend had a 9lb baby and vaginally delivered him with no issues. Shoulder dystocia does happen, but usually results in a healthy baby and mother. I'm going to be honest with you, I really feel like so many OBs push sections on their patients with scary details because they like the convenience/scheduling factor. If this is something you feel strongly about, I would have a serious discussion with your OB. If you baby is measuring big, why couldn't you maybe try an induction instead of an automatic section?
I had a c-section with my twins because one of my babies was breech, and I didn't want it at all. The recovery was ok, but if there has been any chance I could have had a vaginal delivery, I would have selected that option. I'm trying for a vbac this time around.

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
yup I feel you can could have written this post. . My baby is about 9 lbs now I think, or close to it, and I'm at 40 weeks 5 days and have no progress. My dr wants to induce by the end of this week but is worried it will end in a c-section too just bc I don't seem to be make any progress. I'm still torn - wanting to wait to see if I progress on my own - but fearing that that will end in c-section too. I always said that what matters is he comes out healthy and I just keep trying to go back to that but it's hard when you have a vision of how you want things.
Please feel free to FM me if you want to vent more. . . and we will make it!!

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
i agree with others - my sister's 3 babies were ALL 9+ lbs - the oldest was 9.14 and she had them all vaginally! You can still do it.
good luck!

Re: So tired of "no progress!"
First I am sorry, I know how you feel. 3 years ago I was in the same position. No progress and a baby measuring well over 9lbs. My dr didnt give me any "scary" statistics, she just said to me she thought a c/s was my best option.
She wouldnt do an induction unless I was showing some progress on my own, which I just never did. I wasnt even a finger tip dilated.
Anyway, in the end I opted for a scheduled c/s. I cried over making the decision, but I felt it was best for me and my family.
Yes some women can deliver a 9lb baby vaginally with no issues, while others just cant. In the end our bodies are all different.
But this is YOUR decision and you need to weigh the options and decide what is best for you. My DS was 9lbs 14oz. He is built (still at 3yo) like a linebacker. He is broad and just big. I am confident that I made the right decision for me. My SIL delivered a 9lb 13oz baby vaginally but our kids are just not built the same and my SIL are not either.
But think of it this way, if your Doc is out this week and therefore you have to wait to schedule the c/s....you still might go into labor on your own. You just never know!!
GL with your decision!
PS - My scheduled c/s IMO was a dream. I felt great, there was little stress for me or DS, he came out looking like a 2 month old and I was up and around in less than 24 hours! Prior to my c/s I had never even had stitches so I was very nervous!!!
