Question about your 1st doctors visit?
I just called obgyn to make my first app't. They aren't seeing me until march 31.....I'll be just shy of 7 weeks then (counting day one on conception date).
Is that normal?
I have a call into the nurse to get some prenatals, so i'll double check with her, but it seems so far away.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
I went in when I was a little over 4 weeks. I didn't see my doctor. I saw the NP and they gave me pretty much a HPT to confirm the pregnancy and took blood work and went over any questions I had. My next appointment was with my doctor when I was 8 weeks.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
That's pretty normal for anyone who has no expectations of a high risk pregnancy and is healthy.
You don't have to wait to get pre-natals, you can buy them OTC in any pharmacy or Target.
It's better to get in later than early, if you are not a high risk patient. If you go in early, it can stress you more because they might do a sonogram to confirm the pregnancy, and at this point there is practically nothing there. It can make you freak out a bit, thinking about the next time you are going and hoping something is there...so I would consider it normal to be just shy of 7 weeks.
That's actually a little early compared to most OB offices who will many times make patients wait until 9 or 10 weeks.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
I went to confirm with a blood test at 5 weeks & had a sono at 6 weeks (heard HB ). I think I was earlier than usual though because I went to my old GYN for a referral to an OB.
I'm seeing the OB for the first time today (now I'm just about 11 weeks.)
BTW, I believe you count how many weeks you are based on your last period, not since conception.. so you are probably a few weeks further along than you think if you currently are counting from ovulation. I have irregular cycles, but knew my O date so I googled online due date calculators that used the ovulation date to figure it out, and the Dr came up with the same date when he calculated.

That seems to be the norm actually. Two people in my office just got pregnant and both of them will be 8 weeks at their first OB visit.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
It's definitely normal. My office wouldn't see me until 8 weeks but told me to call if I had any questions or was having any issues.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
Sounds standard to me. My 1st official appt was at 7w and we got to hear the heartbeat and see the little bean. I did however go in around 5w for spotting.

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
Yes that is pretty normal - esp if they want to do a sono. I think I went at 6w and they just saw the HB but any earlier than that and you might not see anything other than a sac You can always go and have them do a blood test to confirm everything

Re: Question about your 1st doctors visit?
Yep. I will be 7w4d at my first appointment this time...I think I was just a few days earlier the first time around....
My Dr says this is pretty much bc if you don't have any history of complications and/or reasons for concerns, they can't see much (i.e. heartbeat) before approx 7 weeks.....
