Flower beds - my stuff is sprouting!
I have bulbs coming up already! Its way to early and they might die during a good frost but we shall see. Normally I don't fertilize and mulch until late April/early May but I normally don't see action until then. Should I go ahead and do both soon?

Re: Flower beds - my stuff is sprouting!
yeah I noticed some weeds sprouting the other day. I think all the moisture from the snow must have made them germinate fast this year

I know, my kids are so excited and check every day to see what's growing. We have crocus, hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips all coming up. Spring is almost here!

My onions and garlic are sprouting already. I think the plants are ready for the spring as well.

Re: Flower beds - my stuff is sprouting!
at first i thought it was the hostas that i had painstakingly dug up last summer and its possible some are but that is definitely a tulip bulb. I may mulch and fertilize anyway and fill it as need be before summer.

we have zero snow (live in Lindenhurst) but our house faces west and i noticed if your house is either south facing or west facing the snow melts faster.

Re: Flower beds - my stuff is sprouting!
I first noticed my tulips coming up through the snow over a week ago. I thought it was so weird to see them against the white like that! But they're still growing, and now that the weather's warmer, I hope they'll be okay.

Donna's are too!!! I didn't check mine. Here's her's.
In Lancaster, the Amish plant gardens early, and for certain plants, that are vulnerable, they cover with buckets, etc. to protect them from frost. Mary
