Sort of spinoff To Jarred Sauce

Do you assume that people of Italian descent make better sauce? Meaning if you needed to make a great tomato sauce would you assume that the recipe given to you by Giovanna Maria-Antonia Spaghettini is going to be way better than the one offered by Katie Elizabeth O'Guiness?

Part of me would say yes...because I'd assume that they learned from the elders in their family, who learned it from their elders, and so on. Recipes that are passed on are always great.

But then the other part of me says no, because my husband is Bengali and he makes a mean tomato sauce but doesn't know diddly about making dahl! Chat Icon

Re: Sort of spinoff To Jarred Sauce

actually.. funny you posted because yesterday, I picked up some mussels in tomato sauce from an Irish pub near us.. and that sauce was to DIE for.. no joke.. I was slurping the sauce that was caught between the shells and DH practically "drank" the sauce.. so as of yesterday I have proven wrong.. ANYONE can make a great sauce.. except me.. Chat Icon

Nope! My mom's a mutt (Italian, Irish, Polish, Scottish) and her sauce blows my 100% Sicilian future mother in law's sauce out of the water! Even FH says it - although we don't tell her that Chat Icon

I did!

But then I met my German/Irish MIL and she makes a GREAT sauce.

Not as good as my mom's Chat Icon but pretty damn good!

BUT she learned from HER Italian MIL at 13. . .

ETA: My mom makes a better brisket, pot roast and beef stew though!!! Even DH says it!

My ex-DH is German and made the best sauce ever. My mom still says I should have kept him around just for the sauce Chat Icon
