1st trimester and excercise...
I normally go to the gym @ 3 times a week but I have felt so tired the last few weeks (I am 7w3d) that I have not been. I think I am going to go for a walk tonite w/ my bff.
My question is--did anyone fgo through this tired, headache, naseau and just not excercise much? Does it get better in trimester 2&3?
I know I should be pushing myself and get to the gym for some cardio but I am wiped after work...please share your experience with me

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
pre pregnancy i ran and took spin classes like 4-5 times a week. As soon as I was pregnant I couldnt do anything. I think during the first trimester i went like 6 times total. It got a little better once the 2nd tri started and got a lot better for me around 20weeks and for the last 7 weeks (I am not 27w) I have been able to go 3-4 times a week.
So first trimester dont expect too much but it should get better.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
my sister warned me i might not feel up to it until 12w... that's what happened to her. i would rather curl up in a ball and go to sleep at this point, although i wish i had the energy.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
i was def too tired for anything during the first trimester. i would just fall asleep constantly.
at 12 weeks i was told i can't exercise due to bleeding. so i'm not much help with exercising.
the 2nd trimester you are less tired... but i do have moments where I will just pass out all of a sudden. it comes out of nowhere. usually if i dont take a little nap.
the 2nd trimester i feel overall better than the first. however the few pains i do have are actually pretty severe and worse than anything i experienced in the 1st trimester (like round ligament pain - i had a really bad case of it). and my back seems to be bothering me much more. but when i dont feel these pains i'm really feeling great and even sometimes not pregnant.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
I used to excise 3-5 times a week. I spent my whole first trimester ill, so I did not do much of anything except towards the end. I started to feel better by week 14 and went back to the gym 2-3 times a week and then had a cervix issue so stopped for 2 weeks, now I am trying to go. I am also very tired, so my feelings are to listen to your body. Dont push yourself if your not feeling it. That is what I am doing. Good luck.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
The first was the worst. I still went to the gym but on and off. I actually exercised more in the second and third trimesters. I go 4-5 times a week and I plan on doing so up until my due date. The second trimester I did take a two month break and only did walking and light weights due to being put on pelvic rest. As long as your doctor is ok with it and you don't have any complications you can workout up until you give birth.
I take pride in working out and I am pretty sure that doing it so consistently made my pregnancy easier and overall very uneventful. I did not experience any of the common complaints of pregnancy (Back pain, leg cramps, etc). I definitely recommend it throughout your pregnancy. I feel better than ever because of it!!!!

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
Before I got pregnant I used to exercise a lot..I actually conceived the day before I ran a half marathon.
The nausea kicked in right away for me and I stopped exercising completely...I just couldn't do it. I was miserable but everything got better by 14 weeks and I started back up again. It definitely gets better!
I'm a big fan of yoga and pilates.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
I was going to the gym 4 times/week for classes. I was 4-5 weeks pregnant and still going to cardio kickboxing! When I found out I was expecting, I cut back to just Zumba 1 day/week and yoga 1 day/week. When I would go to the gym and work out it actually made me feel less nauseous during the day. Now I'm on pelvic rest and I am DYING because I can't work out!

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
as my dr said when it came to food and exercise, just do whatever you have to do to make it through the first trimester. you will be tired, then nauseous. I worked out b/c i felt fine up until about 7 weeks, then the nausea hit me like a truck and lasted until week 14 or so. since it's been so damn cold I haven't gone back to the gym though I did try prenatal yoga and am hoping to get there. I have more energy now at 18 weeks but STILL haven't set foot in the gym. I just want the weather to get nice so I can walk outside.
don't worry about it too much.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
first trimester I did not work out at all bc I was so exhausted, a little anxious, and was also dealing with a bad ankle problem. .
since that I have been working out fairly regularly and even now at 39 weeks I go to the gym 3-5 times a week - do water aerobics, yoga, elliptical, exercise bike and it has helped SOOOOO much. . now I am just flat out uncomfortable but really avoided a lot of back/hip pain until recently which I attribute to working out (and getting lots of massages)
but as other posters have said. . listen to your body- I am def scaling back now - not doing anything as hard or long. . . which is hard for me but SO important

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
I was active before my BFP and was determined to continue to be active throughout my pregnancy. However around 8 weeks I had a hard time getting off the couch after work so I cut back my work out to about 3x a week. I listened to my body and if I felt reallly tired I would stop working out or do a light work out.
During the second trimester I felt a lot better so I went back to working out but then slowly cut back again because of the weather, being busy, etc. and my body started to feel it.
So, i started up again and I am starting to feel a little better. I am in my third trimester and I am tired again but still trying to force myself to do SOMETHING, even if its just stretching.
Bottom line, listen to your body and keep yourself hydrated. If you start feeling dizzy or nauseas stop and take a break.

Re: 1st trimester and excercise...
I was running and walking several times a week. I planned to do so throughout. However, I started spotting and was told to avoid ANYTHING. When I got the okay, it was already dark when I was coming home and the motivation was GONE!!!! I didn't want to go out in the dark and cold.
Now I'm 26 weeks and I would love to exercise but a)I forget, and b)I fall asleep on the couch as soon as I get home.

me too. I really want to walk and do prenatal yoga, but I'm exhausted! I'm hoping at 12-13 weeks I will feel up for it.
