Natural L&D at Winthrop, anyone?

Has anyone had a natural L&D at Winthrop? Care to share stories, experiences, suggestions, etc? I'm hoping to go natural (no epidural, etc), but am wondering how the hospital is with encouraging/discouraging it. Did they allow you to move during labor? Did they allow you to try different positions during delivery? (like, delivery in a squatting position or on your hands & knees)

Also, any experience w/ their lactation consultants? Were they helpful?

Thx!

They don't push the epi., they just ask and you either tell them yes or no.

You will be hooked up to an i.v. weather you want to want natural or not. It keeps you hydrated and in the event you change your mind and want an epi. you need to have a bag of fluids in you. I also believe you need it incase you need a c-section that way the iv is already in.

Not necessarily. I didn't have to be hooked up to an IV, but I did allow them to insert the IV lock.

If your practitioner allows, you can also negotiate intermittent fetal monitoring (instead of being strapped down to the bed by the fetal monitor). This allows you to move around, which is the only way I could handle contractions.

Good luck!

When I went on the hospital tour someone asked that question and they said it is up to the dr. They put the port though in everyone just in case.
