Well what do you mean not a dinner? Is it an appetizers and dessert type of thing then? There are plenty of interesting appetizers or tapas you can do and creative desserts as well. What did you have in mind for what will be served/how it would be served?
ETA: I also meant to ask when will it be served? Is it a lunch, brunch, or just dinner-time but not dinner?

Re: 30th Bday for a Foodie
Hi, yeah I totally forgot that info.. it will start at 7 and she will come at close to 8 So I was thinking of apps and desserts, I am planning on using my kitchen table for a big part of the food for the space, I have a den and living room as well to have people mingle through..

Appetizer Ideas:
1. You can make specialty bruschettas, like toast the bread with evoo and garlic, then when it comes out you put fresh tomatoes, basil and fresh mozzerella cubes on it.
2. Everyone loves things in puff pastry. My two favorites are brie and raspberry bites in puff pastry and also cheese and mushroom pies. You make little circles (using the top of a drinking glass or something) in the puff pastry and fill one circle with a little sour-cream-mustard mixture and cooked mushrooms and grated cheddar cheese and then place another circle on top of it and using a fork mend the edges of the circles together.
3. There are also puff pastry cups and you can fill those with crab salad.
4. You can make homemade breads and slice those up with a dipping oil. people always get really impressed with that.
5. You can do asparagus wrapped in proscuitto.
6. You can do mini-meatballs and serve it alongside a special sauce like a brown cream gravy or a spicy wing sauce.

Dessert Ideas:
1. Homemade Hostess Cupcakes
2. Mini-Lemon Meringues (you make them in the mini-cupcake pans)
3. Orange Slices in Orange Marmalade
4. Cookie Dough-Brownie Bites
5. Oreo Truffles- mash up oreos in the food processor with cream cheese and then make into balls and coat with dark chocolate.

Prosciutto PInwheels - Love these they are so good.
Shrimp cocktail mini crab cakes fresh mozz balls with grapes tomatoes, fresh basil on a toothpick marinated in balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Provencal Tartlets - I like to use the premade phyllo cups in the frozen food section instead of the wonton wrappers - less work and tastier (IMO) Wild mushroom Tartlets Chicken Satays mini meatballs Spinach Artichoke dip in a crockpot small finger sandwiches bruschetta
