IUI vs. IVF

More specifically for those who have male infertility. Did anyone go straight to IVF? DH has morphology issues and his dr. briefly mentioned that if we go onto doing treatments we should skip IUI bc that would not be a good option bc of the issues being on the male side. We are approaching 1 year and have been talking about starting looking into something more aggressive. We are still debating waiting a bit longer since DH just recently had surgey that should imporve his numbers. Just wondering what others experiences have been.

Re: IUI vs. IVF

this isnt why i did IVF, but from everything I have read, IVF makes MUCH more sense for male factor.

if morphology is very low the sperm can get to the egg but cant penetrate it to fertilize. so with IUI it wont make any difference than with Chat Icon . but with IVF they can do ICSI and inject even poor morphology sperm directly into the egg, so the sperm doesnt even have to do any of the work. IMO thats why with poor morphology IVF is recommended over IUI.

Re: IUI vs. IVF

DH and I did 7 IUIs with no success.
He also only has a morphology issue and although they say supplements will help.. they didn't seem to do too much for us.
For me everything is normal and therefor we 3 did unmedicated IUIs and then got a bit more aggressive and did 4 medicated.

Anyway.. we finally decided to pay out of pocket and do our 1st IVF and got lucky on out 1st try.
I am currently 22 weeks.

FM me if you want any more details or just wanna talk.

Re: IUI vs. IVF

We have MF --DH was taking clomid, but his #s didn't improve enough with it. Now he's on HCG shots instead and his #s are looking much better. We were told to skip IUI because it wouldn't increase our chances much and went straight to IVF. Our 1st IVF cycle failed and now we're starting cycle #2!

DH has morphology issues and now a sketchy count. we didn't go straight to IVF, but we're headed there after only 3 failed IUIs on clomid.

i think if there's MF, it's more likely you'll be on the express train to IVF.

Re: IUI vs. IVF

We were advised against IUI because of DH's count and morph. We went straight to IVF/ICSI and got pregnant with DD on the first try.

DH had bilateral varicoceles. They were repaired after our IVF

Re: IUI vs. IVF

We have MF issues. we did 4 IUI with Clomid all BFN. We are moving on to IVF. They said our chances with IUI were very low but we tried that a few times cause it's alot less involved and we have gotten pregnant on our own twice (both ended in miscarriage).

That is very hopeful!! DH has basically the same issue, however he had the surgery already.
