How do you come up with your recipes?
I have been cooking for sometime now, but I tend to cook the same old things. The only time I experiment is if I have a recipe.
How do you become creative with your cooking?

I think of flavors and ingredients I like and try to go from there. Using recipes helps give you a startint point, then you can vary to your liking. Also, I tend to look at protein/pasta as a blank canvas...You can truly throw things together and it will taste good
For example, we LOVE mexican food, so I always think of a new way to incorporate those flavors in an interesting way; new quesadillas, a taco quiche, tamale pie, etc.
Just don't be afraid to try something new!

Re: How do you come up with your recipes?
Honestly, I would have to say I do my most creative cooking when I am short on ingredients and don't want to go to the store.
I do read a lot of cookbooks, and browse a lot of websites for recipes. I think I kinda have gotten a sense as to what ingredients "go" with each other that way.
I also combine recipes. I may like this part of one recipe, and that part of another and then see what happens if I sort of blend them together.

Re: How do you come up with your recipes?
I get most creative when I am trying to get rid of leftovers, like when I have a bit of this ingredient left and a bit of that spice that will go bad soon...
From all the recipes we love, and all the ones I want to try, I get ideas for how I can throw things together or manipulate the recipes in ways that i think would make them better.

Thanks for the feedback. I have to start trying new things and stop letting the kitchen intimidate me.

same here....some of my best recipes have come from the oh sh!t moments...i don't want to go to the store for just that....
sometimes i'll just take a little of what I am making and try to incorporate new ingredients to it so I don't have to waste an entire recipe that may not turn out good.
i will also combine a few different recipes i se online based on different reviews and cooking experience.....i'd rather try something new then just eat the same old stuff day in and day out....especially when I am trying to live a low carb lifestyle .

Re: How do you come up with your recipes?
We have a great client recipe swap on our site (mostly Long Islanders-some restaurants, facebook and twitter friends). I test every recipe to be sure they are for "real people" haha -- plus if I can make it, anyone can. Try these, and by all means if anyone has a fool-proof recipe to share email me.
Here is the recipe page link
