How can I thicken a cream sauce?

I made the cream sauce with sausage recipe someone posted on here for dinner. But it is so thin and watery to me. Is the any way I can thicken it up?

I hope I didn't ruin it. I cooked it in the crockpot today instead of on the stove. Maybe that wasn't a good idea. Chat Icon

try adding some flour in the sauce. it should thicken it up. try adding a little but, stirring it up, and letting it sit for a little bit....

hope it works.

You need to make a rue (sp?) Before you make your sauce...melt butter in the pan and add flour cook for a minute then add your cream sauce ingredients that will help make it a lot thicker.

You can also dissolve cornstarch in cold water and add that to thicken sauce.

Wondra flour works wonders.

You need a starch as a thickener - so either flour, cornstarch, etc.

Make a roux with equal parts (weight wise) of flour and fat. Butter is usually used. Melt the butter and then add the flour and cook until it is paste like. Someone gave good instructions above.

Or you can mix cornstarch or flour with a little water. I find just adding cornstarch or flour straight to the dish makes it lumpy.
