Can someone help me out with a recipe question?

I'm not the best cook out there! Chat Icon

I found a great looking recipe though for marinated flank steak.
Our BBQ is obviously not an option since it's buried in about a foot of snow and ice! Chat Icon

So the recipe says this:

Heat a cast iron grill pan over high heat and drizzle with a little canola oil. Remove flank steak from marinade and remove any excess marinade with paper towel. Cook steak for 5-7 minutes on each side for medium rare.

What exactly is a cast iron grill pan?
Do I cook it in the oven on that?
Is it like broiling?
They dont' give a tempature...what do you think?

This is a cast iron grill pan

According to what you wrote, you would use this pan on the stove on High to cook the steak, 5-7 mins on each side.

It's like a frying pan but has grill lines and is made of cast iron. So you put the pan on the stovetop and the directions say high heat so you put it on high. It works great if you have a gas stove. I find that grill pans don't work on electric stoves. Love my gas stove!!

If you have a grill pan that is not cast iron, it is okay to use that as well.

And cooking time may vary. There si a test you can do to get it cooked to your liking. I find it actually works.

After a few minutes touch the steak. And then match the feel to your face.

cheek - rare
Chin- medium
forehead-well done

btw - a cast rion skillet can go in the oven, but other types may or may not be able to.
