Has anyone ever worked with fondant?
I want to try and replicate this cake for my son's birthday (without the players). I do bake a lot but I have never worked with fondant. Is it difficult? Do you think I could wing it?

I think you could do it! You can make your own homemade fondant (you can google a recipe... it's just mini marshmallows, confectioner's sugar, and a little crisco), which I find VERY pliable and easy to roll, tint and cut.

Re: Has anyone ever worked with fondant?
I tried to make it once but it didn't work out for me however I def don't belong in the kitchen. I went to michaels and bought the already made one thats in a box, rolled it out and added food coloring to make it the color I wanted. It was easier than I thought

It's not bad- not as good as homemade though. But surprisingly easy to work with.

Re: Has anyone ever worked with fondant?
Fondant is very easy to work with....it's like play doh or clay really. I have made it, but I find it a lot easier to use the pre-made fondant. For a dark color like the navy blue, I'd suggest you buy it pre-colored because it takes A LOT of color to get that deep of a color. Wilton makes a great fondant....but not in large quantities of the colored. Satin Ice has a great colored fondant. You can buy it in a specialty store like The Chocolate Duck, or online. I'm pretty sure they make it in navy. And YouTube has lots of videos on rolling fondant, and covering cakes in it. The best advice I can give is to not get frustrated if it doesn't work the first time! Good Luck!

I make my own fondant - it's not hard but it is messy! For that cake I would print out the Yankee logo and trace it on the fondant instead of free handing it. Good luck!

Yep! I've made this one too....tastes so much better than the Wilton. It's pretty easy to work with, too.

Yes, I mainly make it because I do a lot of decorated cakes for family birthdays, and nobody in my family likes the taste of Wilton fondant. They like the marshmallow one (it's extremely sweet, but doesn't have that plastic sort of taste that the storebought can have)

Re: Has anyone ever worked with fondant?
WILTON makes premade white fondant and colored fondant. I used the white for my SIL wedding..and cut out heart shapes and stamped them for their cupcakes. IT was pretty easy to roll out and cut.
however, Im not one for cake decorating..but if you roll it out thin enough, its pretty easy to work with.
