Supermarket frustration
I'm really starting to get frustrated with the selection, quality, and price of meat these days. Where do you find a good selection that doesn't cost a fortune?
Today I ended up spending $12 on crappy store brand chicken breasts because it was the only pack that wasn't thin sliced. The name brand that I thought was on sale was no where to be found.

Re: Supermarket frustration
I go to a butcher and, actually, looking at price per pound, I pay less for better quality meats (chicken, beef, etc.). I go to Farmingdale Meat Market on Main Street...

Re: Supermarket frustration
I feel the same way!!
I don't remember there being such a bad selection before but lately none of the chicken is available or looks good and I always pay a fortune no matter the quality or name of the brand... it is very frustrating.
I used to live across the street from this great fish market too. Then I moved far away, and I can't find any place to get good, fresh seafood.
Any suggestions on where to go?

Re: Supermarket frustration
I usually go to the butcher- storks meat market in east islip.
If I have to buy meat from the supermarket I usually buy from shoprite or whole foods.

We tend to go to Giunta's Meat Farms for our meats. They even have the butcher there so that if you do want cutlets thin sliced (or anything sliced) they will do it for you.
Not sure where you are located but here are their locations:

Re: Supermarket frustration
A lot of times I just stick with the market because it's more convenient. I've gotten really good at seeking sales. Family pack of breasts was on sale at S&S this weekend for 1.99 per pound. I just cut them thin myself.
I have found that as Supermarkets go Stop and Shop is mediocre but not terrible. Best Yet has much better pricing on meats overall.
When I need a quality cut of meat I used to always go to Islip Meat Market on Main in East Islip (he was my dad's butcher too). But the convenience factor had me change that to Fine Meats in Oakdale on Montauk.
