For those who took Femara
Did your insurance cover it? Which insurance? Did you have to fight them to cover it?
They originally gave it to me, but had to switch me to Clomid because my insurance company denied the Femara because it's a breast cancer drug. Duh, it's widely used for fertility too! Get with the times! I might still appeal it because they are just being jerks and don't want to pay for it. It would be $230 out of pocket so that is out.

Re: For those who took Femara
Wow, seriously? I have Aetna and I really think this is their stupid way of trying not to pay. I have endo too so Femara treats endo and would be better for me.
They are so dumb because if my endo gets worse which I heard clomid can do, I will need another lap. I know they paid $1900 just for the anest.
Thanks! I'm totally fight them on it.

Re: For those who took Femara
I have Aetna and they covered it. It probably needs prior approval and that would mean you have to be approved for fertility treatments. Or it could depend which plan your employer purchased. It might not be a covered drug at all. Insurance BS sucks!!

I registered with their fertility program. They said its covered but My Dr. has to call in for approval. They called and they sent it for review and I got a letter saying its not covered unless I have breast cancer.
I'm going to call tomorrow because I'm wondering if maybe they didn't call it in properly (meaning to Aetna's obnoxious criteria)

How frustrating. I will say you might hit a brick wall. Since it is not FDA approved for use in fertility insurance my say nope b/c it's an off labeled use.

Re: For those who took Femara
I have Aetna and they didn't cover it because IF is an off label use, like you said it's a cancer drug. Like the pp said, FDA has not approved Femara for this indication (IF) so the insurance won't cover for the cost. Insurances will always try to look for a reason not to pay for as much as they can get away with.
