repost: pot roast question
I am new to the slow cooker. If I am making a pot roast in the slow cooker, do I get a rump or bottom round roast? If I am making it for me and Dh and would like some leftovers, how many lbs? Can I put the potatoes in the slow cooker with it? Do I use brown gravy or broth? How long do I cook it?

Re: repost: pot roast question
I've never made it in the crockpot, but I am pretty sure the steps are all the same except after you sear/sere (sp) the meat on the stove top you place it in the crockpot.
- use a chuck roast (cheaper, but tastier) I usually make 4 lbs for the family - coat with flour seasoned with salt and pepper brown on all sides with olive oil in a pre heated pot. - once seared place in crockpot and add water about half way up - add chopped carrots (cut in long thin logs-don't use baby carrots) - add thinkly sliced onion, - extra salt and pepper -a few splashes low sodium worchestire sauce - 2 bay leaves* ...done!
I usually make mine in my ceramic dutch oven and bake 3.5 -4 hours on 250 covered....they say to double the cooking time in the crockpot.... I'm sure you can just add the potatoes in with everything else.
this is a family favorite in my house!
I usually make potato latkes on the side and I also make egg noodles to mix with the meat broth (only time i double carb and soooo yummy) plus red cabbage and apple sauce. * i left this off originally-sorry!!
