someone tell me i'm not weird please!

I got my bfp and beta confirmed last week Chat Icon , went for a sono yesterday to see the sac (looks fine) and we're now 5 1/2 weeks pregnant with a September due date.

other than some tender boobs and occasional back pain, i don't feel a thing.

I'm very much in this surreal la-la land right now. It totally hasn't sunk in and i don't 'feel' like i'm pregnant. It seems like i'm just pretending and it's not really happening to me.

is this normal?

i mean, i feel like a normal person would be jumping for joy with happiness and giddy all the time (especially after going through IF and TTC'ing for 2 years).
But i really feel like i'm scared to do that. I feel like it's not real yet and i'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop and something bad to happen Chat Icon

I've bought 'what to expect when you're expecting' and DH and i are browsing through it now and then.. but i haven't gone on the pregnancy board because i don't feel like i can relate yet.

tell me this is normal please.. tell me i'll snap out of it!

I think it's totally normal. After everything you've been through while TTC for the past two years, it is hard to move away from that mindset. Also, unfortunately, we all know way too much about what can happen, as we've either experienced it, or read about others' experiences on here, so we don't get the luxury of going into our pregnancies with the bliss that ignorance brings. I know personally, that I will never get excited about a positive HPT again.

I really think that you'll start to feel like you're pregnant once you get to see the heartbeat on the sonogram, and when you start having more symptoms. It will become more real week by week.

Meanwhile, let us all be excited for you! I am so excited that you got to see the sac! I never made it to that point, so to me, that is super-exciting news! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

First off...Congratulations !!

Every little hurdle and milestone you get to will make it all a little more "real"for you...As a BTDT infertility patient- soak all of this in and enjoy every second because you will not believe how very fast it goes..Try to block out the negative and look forward to all the new beginnings Chat Icon

It really is totally normal!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon You spent so much of your life recently trying to get pregnant ... basing your plans around your cycles... possible bfps... "what ifs" .. etc.. It's so hard to break the chain and just ACCEPT that you found success and that something amazing has happened and you will have a BABY in 9 months!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Of course everyone is different, but I think by 12wks it will really start to sink in. By the 12wk ultrascreen, the baby looks more fully formed and you might see it sucking it's thumb .. or hiccup Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon It will all start to sink in soon.. trust me! Then another defining moment is when you start looking at baby stuff and building a registry. All of a sudden you realize you're not planning a protocol like you are so used to.. you're planning for a new little LIFE Chat Icon It really is an amazing feeling once it all starts to feel real and you feel comfortable getting excited about it!!

Re: someone tell me i'm not weird please!

it's def normal.

esp for someone who has been through a lot in terms of TTC. You are scared to really celebrate the good news until you are secure that it's true and safe.

i felt the same exact way. and even to a certain extent still do feel this way. I'm scared to register. I'm almost 18 weeks now, and scared to register. the whole process can be nerve racking.

but congratulations on your BFP! i hope all goes well for you!!!

I've never been pregnant, but I think it's totally normal. I think a lifetime of worry begins the moment you get your BFP. You'll most likely be worried the entire 9 months until the baby comes out crying. Then you'll be worried that everything is okay and the baby is sleeping soundly each night. One day you'll be worried when he/she gets his/her driver's license and is home late.

So, I think it's totally normal Chat Icon

Enjoy it the best you can!!

So excited for you Chat Icon

its completely normal.
other than a case of mild OHSS, at 5w+ i def didnt feel pregnant. i started having real preg symptoms (nausua, food aversions..etc) around 7w and they lasted til about 14w. im 18w tomorrow and i still have to remind myself im pregnant sometimes. esp. now that most of the symptoms are gone. ive had like 7 u/s and seen the baby and heard the heartbeat many times, but even now it still doesnt seem real. im slowly starting to register and talk about a shower but im so scared im just going to jinx it and somehow it will be taken away!

just take it one day at a time!

Congrats!!

I haven't been trying as long as a some or doing treatments, or had losses, but I still know I wont be able to be fully excited until I'm out of the woods. Of course I'd be happy to get a BFP, but I think I will be like "ok, what's the next step". I don't think I'll be jumping up and down or anything b/c that might jinx it.

So, either you are totally normal, or I'm weird too Chat Icon

I'm sure once you start to show and feel more symptoms, it will become more real.

I think it's totally normal! The whole IF process takes all the fun out of the BFP! First you are worried that you won't get that positive. Then you get the positive and start to worry for a whole lot more reasons!

Having 1 DD already....I was nervous the entire time I was pregnant. It got better the furthur along I got, but I remember being scared that something was going to be wrong when the did the u/s the morning of my c-section! And then baby comes and the worry just continues....are the eating enough, are they sleeping enough, are they growing, am i a good mom, etc.....

Try to enjoy this special time, although I know it's not easy.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it is normal. I have heard many women say that it didn't feel real until they heard and saw the heartbeat.

Try to enjoy it and not stress out, marvel that you have a life inside you. Chat Icon
