Steaks
I don't eat steaks but I want to make it for dinner for DH tonight. Do you marinate it or just season the steak?
I am clueless when it comes to cooking meat. Any tips/suggestions are appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Steaks
I always need to marinate. I make my own with copious amounts of olive oil, soy sauce, scallions, onions, garlic, and pepper. I allow myself to splurge with the sodium when I make a marinade. I think marinading makes it more tender and I get a nice crust.

Re: Steaks
sometimes I marinate, sometimes I season. Just depends. If I marinate, i do it overnight. If you are not already marinating one, you can season it with a little kosher salt and black pepper and some garlic if you want. I also have bought steak seasonings and sometimes use that as well. You could even throw on a little bit of dried herbs if you wanted. You can't really go wrong as long as you don't over due it.

Re: Steaks
Generally, I don't marinate our steaks b/c it can change the texture of the skin, but I will sometimes depending on the type of steak. Normally, I just use a little salt (kosher or sea) and crushed black pepper. Sear on both sides in a fry pan and then finish it off in a 500 degree oven. My go to steak is strip.

Re: Steaks
I don't marinate or season the meat oo much, I feel like it takes away from the natural flavor of the meat. Salt, Pepper, Paprika and alittle bit of Olive Oil. We broil the steaks. I raise the tray to about 6 inches below the broiler and cook on High for about 4-5 mins on each side for a T-Bone.

Re: Steaks
I only marinate 'lesser' meats - chuck, flank, london broil, sirloin, sometimes strip. I never marinate a prime Porter or Rib or Filet.. it just doesn't need it in my opinion.
I probably wouldn't marinate a T-Bone (which - like the Porter - has a little filet and a lot of rib and tends to be a pretty tasty and generally tender cut).
I prefer to use the outdoor grill for steaks. If I cook inside I'll usually use a cast iron skillet. If it's a larger cut (london broil) and I can't do grilling I will broil.

Re: Steaks
I don't like to marinate steaks - I just prefer to season.
I do a dry rub of salt, pepper, garlic powder, chilli powder, parika, thyme, onion powder.

tbone. nope. nice amount of salt and pepper in a sizzling hot cast iron pan seared and both sides then popped into the oven to finish off to desired doneness.

Re: Steaks
I am a total purist when it comes to steak. I take room temp steak, lightly season it with pepper and garlic powder ( no salt until after it is done cooking, it dries out the meat.) Grill/broil it until medium rare. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then serve. I salt it when it hits my plate.
