Re: bringing on labor....

me & DH were JUST talking about this literally 5 minutes ago. lol. We were saying how we were really hoping baby wouldn't linger too late and maybe we should start trying some 'techniques' around 38/39 wks. (I'm 35 wks now) But who knows if any of them actually WORK. So I'm curious too. Thanks for posting this question. Maybe we should bring it to the Parenting Board also Chat Icon

I tried everything....bouncing on a yoga ball, walking, pineapple, spicy food, sex....nothing worked! I was induced at 41 weeks.

A friend of mine had a huge thing of pineapple, not knowing it was something that induces labor, and she went into labor the next morning.

Since I'm trying for a VBAC here's what I'm planning on trying;

sex
walking
pineapple
foot massages
Chiropractor

I *think* there is some kind of oil drink stuff girls have talked about on the parenting that I'm going to look into since I hear it works.

I def. DON'T want another c-section so I'm going to try everything I can!

Re: bringing on labor....

My friend went to the chiropractor, after 2 visits she finally dialated to 1cm (because there had been no progress as she hit 37 weeks). Now at 39 weeks she's got some progress!

Re: bringing on labor....

I tried the castor oil. Disgusting and all it did was make me go to the bathroom.

I did the yoga ball for a while. It isn't supposed to bring on labor instantly, just open your pelvis for the babys head to come down quicker.

Long walks.

The day before I went into labor (I went into labor at 38w4d) with DS I went and got a pedicure with a realllllllly long foot massage, concentrated on the ball, arch, and heel of my feet. Apparently there is a pressure point somewhere down there that triggers the uterus to contract.

I also went for a really long walk with DH.

Not sure if those are the reasons I went into labor, but can't hurt to try.

some people have said that a glass of wine helps. Wonder if that's true.

Re: bringing on labor....

Yoga ball totally worked for me.

I sat on it and did hula-hoop type rotations, 10 left then 10 right, then lightly bounced for 2-3 minutes and repeated this over the course of 2 hours. I went into labor almost exactly 24 hours later.

It's supposed to open the pelvis and help the baby descend.

Mind you, I was already 3 cm and 75% for almost a whole week before this. I went into labor 2 days before my due date and my labor ad delivery only took a total of 6 hours start to finish.

So I don't know if the yoga ball was just a coincidence. I did work out through my entire pregnancy until 38 weeks.

Re: bringing on labor....

my cousin just told me another one that I thought I'd share. She said that with her first she just felt like he needed to come out- there was so much pressure down there even though she was a full week away from her due date so that evening a friend told her to do "cat stretches" when you get on all fours and stretch your back like a cat- sure enough the next morning her water broke! So there's another technique to perhaps bring on labor.

Chat Icon Chat Icon that made me laugh out loud. Love it.

And yes, ejaculate has prostaglandins in it that will cause the uterus to contract.
