Chronic Pain and Infertilty

I have psoriatic arthritis.

Thankfully, at the time that I started to TTC (April, 2009), I was able to come off my pain medication for about a year without having any major pain. Unfortunately, this past summer - over a year into TTC - my pain returned.

As of the last few months, I have been in INCREDIBLE pain on a daily basis. To the point that I don't think I can keep living like this without going on some sort of medication (well, I DO take 6 Motrin a day, but that's not really working these days).

I don't know what to do, living in limbo of trying SO desperately to conceive, and knowing that any medication I take is not compatible with TTC/pregnancy.

Anyone else dealing with this sort of thing?

I am going to talk to my doc tomorrow, but I just don't know if there's even a solution. Chat Icon What I DO know, is that I can't keep living with this pain and not doing something about it. Chat Icon

I'm srry you are in pain Chat Icon
Talk to your dr, I suffer from chronic back issues and I'm allowed to take percocet while ttc. I use it as needed but do not take after a transfer. I have asked my dr repeatedly if taking it has anything to do with not getting pg and he says no, I trust him. There are pain meds you can while pg as long as you are under the close care of a dr.

Have you ever tried seeing an acupuncturist and/or chiropractor? They can offer a lot of help with pain management. Many insurances cover the costs. I have a great rec for you if you are interested.

Thanks for your replies. Chat Icon

I am definitely going to look into acupuncture. It's something I've considered for a long time now, and I think this is the time to finally take the plunge!

I also went to see my rheumatologist today and he prescribed me a 16 day course of prednisone (steroids). That should at least give me some temporary relief.

Now just to get pregnant!!!!!! Chat Icon
