Punta Canta vs Punta Playa
Pros or cons to both? Which is better for 2 young married couples? I am thinking of staying at the Riu Mamba - but was curious what the 2 different places offer...

DH and I went to Punta Cana about 5 years ago. We absolutely loved the resort and the beach. I've heard that the beaches in Puerta Plata are not as nice. I don't recommend leaving the resort at all though, so def make sure you find a resort that offers alot.

I agree that Punta Cana is the "nicer" side. We did a few tours and even went to a nightclub called "Imagine". Its in a natural cave and really cool! So you can leave the resort, as long as its with a tour company. We really loved it there

Re: Punta Canta vs Punta Playa
One tip - check the rain estimates for the month you are going.
I went to Punta Cana in Feb - BEAUTIFUL. I forget where my cousin was but she went in Jan on the other side of the island - it rained every day. We looked it up online when she got home and she stayed on the "rainy side" during Rainy season, while Punta Cana is drier that time of year.

Re: Punta Canta vs Punta Playa
My bf and I just booked a trip to Punta Cana for the end of February. I've heard tons of people say they loved it there, and we got a decent deal at the Riu Palace Punta Cana..we stayed at a Riu Palace in November in Cancun and loved it

Re: Punta Canta vs Punta Playa
Punta Cana water is the carribean, while Puerto Plata side is the Atlantic. I haven't heard that many great things about PP, but it is cheaper if that is a big factor.
