MTHFR help
Just got a call from my doc that I have the MTHFR gene (not sure which one as of yet) and the recommendation going forward is going to be a Folic Acid supplement. Anyone that has this please share your experience. I have to go for additional testing. I do not test positive for antiphospholipds but I guess i need to be tested for more clotting issues. What are the other clotting issues you can have? Do you take baby asprin and/or use Lovenox?

I have one of each MTHFR gene and am what is called compound heterozygous which I understand is the second worst form of MTHFR to have. My homocysteine levels however are normal My doctor recommended at most baby asprin and Folgard. My Dr. does not believe that my form of MTHFR needs to be treated with Lovenox. I did have a full clotting panel done so I do not have any other clotting disorders...if I did...I might have had to do Lovenox. I also switched to a pre-natal vitamin called Neevo that has folic acid that more easily absorbs into the body.
It's all a little controversial, but I think that if you are homozygous with the C mutation, they are more likely to prescribe Lovenox. I would find out which mutation you have and what your homocysteine level is. There is a MTHFR yahoo group that you can also join.

Re: MTHFR help
Thank you! Just feels like another thing to add to the list to worry about.
