Re: shepard's pie
I made it yesterday too! It's a good snow meal.
I don't have a recipe..so I wing it. Also, we only eat chicken/turneky, so I used Ground Chicken..
anyway: I did 2lbs ground chicken- brown on the stove in a separate pan: sautee onions, celery, carrots & peas in olive oil & season to taste Make mashed potatoes- I cheated & used boxed I put the meat & Veggie mixture in a large baking dish & add chicken/turkey gravy- mix all together, taste & add any necessary spices for flavor Top with mashed potatoes & then bake. About 10 mins before, I top with shredded cheese- whatever you like, I used Mozzarella cheese.

Re: shepard's pie
i don't have a recipe really, but try using ground lamb instead of ground beef (if that's what you used)
the lamb has a much better taste (and is what is supposed to be used in shepards pie anyway)

Re: shepard's pie
once the ground beef is browned, i add a bottle of beer to it and let it reduce..
i also add grated onion, a little shredded cheddar and an egg to my mashed potatoes.. then throw it in the broiler and let it all cook together..
it always comes out great! give it a try next time

Re: shepard's pie
I like it with ground beef.. but I have done a lamb/beef mix that was good too!
First I mash potatoes. Do it your favorite way and then put them aside.
Basically I take about 2 pounds of meat and mix it with a large diced onion (I use sweet onion) and get it browned. Add a dollop of beef paste, a couple of shakes of A1, some Worcestershire, a little chili sauce and give a stir. Throw in 2 tablespoons of flour and about a tablespoon of cornstarch and cook until you can see it makes a nice sauce. It should be like a gravy. Add a cup of peas and some diced carrots and a small can of tomato paste. And let simmer.
Meanwhile.. grease up your baking dish. I use butter. Put the meat in the baking dish and then cover it up with your mashed potatoes, dot the top with a little bit of butter and sprinkle some chives if you like them and toss it in the oven for about an hour. The top should get nice and crisp gold on the edges. Let it cool for about 10 minutes and then slice and serve!!
ETA: Taste the meat mix and correct the seasoning as needed before putting in the baking dish.

Re: shepard's pie
I have the easiest recipe ever. It is a family favorite and it (if there are any) is even even better as leftovers the next day.
pound of ground beef... browned and drained your own sauce or one jar of sauce (we like Vincent's) make mashed potatoes heat up one can of creamed corn
After browning the meat and draining it, place it bottom of a serving dish. Heat your sauce and mix it with the beef. Add a layer of creamed corn over the beef (I heat the creamed corn first), then add the layer of potatoes. Some butter on top of the potatoes and you are done.
Love, love this comfort food.

Re: shepard's pie
I just wing it too, but this is what I basically do:
dice up bacon (4 slices) and sautee it in a frying pan until crisp, set aside In separte frying pan, sautee gruond beef, onion, and garlic, drain, in a bowl, add the bacon, ground beef mixture, and a can of campbells brown gravy, and some worcestshire sauce
I usually defrost about 2 cups of mixed veggies,a nd then season them with salt, pepper, garlic powder
in casserole dish, put in meat mixture, next add the veggies, then top with mashed potatoes.
I then put french's french fried onions and grated cheddar cheese on top.
Bake at 375 for 40 minutes.
