Sort of an intro to me, and 1st question :-)
I've been lurking/reading this board for a while now. It's always been a source of information, inspiration, and really a place to go to so I don't feel like I'm alone in this.
After finally narrowing down what our issue is, we're going for our first IUI this cycle. It's unmonitored, I'm just on clomid . I'm on CD10 today, just started with OPK yesterday, so just waiting for the surge.
So here goes with my first question: my cycles are typically on the longer side, like 37-40 days...now that I'm on clomid, should I expect to ovulate at the same time, or will it be closer to the day 14 mark?
I'm hoping that the IUI will fall this weekend if that's the case, but I don't want to get my hopes up if it's not.

Hello and Welcome
You probably will ovulate earlier than you usually do, but it might be later than CD14. Are you getting a sonogram to monitor your follicles? Everyone is different on clomid, but it should be earlier than what is typical for you.

thanks for the reply. No monitoring this cycle...our IF is male-factor, I'm otherwise cycling normally, just long. Since everything is OOP for us, we're not starting out too aggressive, and hoping for the best!

Re: Sort of an intro to me, and 1st question :-)
i dont understand how you would do an IUI without monitoring ?? how would the doctor know when to schedule the IUI?
despite the issue being male factor, IUI's have to be very appropriately timed within 36 hours of ovulation to be effective. are you just using OPKs and then going in?
your cycle may be slightly shorter on clomid but again without monitoring you may have a frustrating week of two of OPKs while you wait.
sorry to sound negative, i really dont mean to be, but monitoring is SOOOOO important when you are on ANY fertility med. good luck!!

I agree. I would call my doctor and ask to be monitored. Especially if your cycles are long, you could be peeing on sticks for weeks!!? Besides those test are NO WHERE near as accurate as a sono/blood test. That in itself is stressful. I usually only had to go in once or twice for an IUI. It is better safe than sorry ! Good luck!

thanks for the input ladies...its really more about cost savings not doing the blood work and sonos this time around...if it doesn't work, we'll have saved up enough to try next cycle with the monitoring. Maybe it's silly, but I didn't want to let this cycle go without not doing ANYthing. I'll be happy to pee on 20 OPK if it gets us to a BFP
