Same Baby Name as a ...
friends of our. They are having a baby boy a month before us and we just found out they have the same first name picked out.
We only see them about once or twice a year (they are not close friends).
Do we need to change our baby name????
We don't know if we are even having a boy.

I hate when that happens. I wouldn't change it, especially if you guys aren't that close and don't see each other all the time. That happened to me, but it was somone close so I felt funny that the kids would have the same name - so I decided not to use the name should I have a girl.

Did they know that was your name?? I would still name your son what you had planned. My DH's friends are all Irish and named their sons Irish sounding names. They all have the names we love and if we somewhere down the line want to name them one of those names we will. I say still name him the name you have picked.

I agree. Actually, my best male friend's wife & I were due at the same time, and since we kept our chosen names a secret, I found out when she gave birth a week before me, that they chose the middle name the SAME as what we had chosen for the 1st name. I didn't care, and named him how I wanted.

I would not change it. My SIL is due a month before us, my FIL told her my names if she picks it(she does stuff like that) I am still not going to change it.

I wouldn't change it, especially since this is not a super close friend. I would not name my child the same as one of my nieces/nephews though. My cousins did that- they are siblings- and it was a big fight over the name Michael..so they both have Michael's born within 3 weeks of each other. It got super confusing when someone would say "Oh, Michael did...or it's Michael's party"...plus it was just plain stupid that they did it because they both felt they had "called the name first"

This is why I wont tell anyone but close family members the names I have chosen. Years ago my girlfriends and SIL we used to talk about names and guess what 1 of my girlfriends AND my SIL "stole" the name I was going to use!!!!!!! ANd their daughters are the same age!!! So I learned my lesson!

But unless it was one of my future  first cousins, I really wouldn't change the name I picked just because a friend (esp. a distant friend at that) picked the same name -

The same thing just happened to us, only it was my first cousin. But, in your situation, I agree with the others, I wouldn't change it.
