Next Stop....IUI
I have really mixed feelings We thought we'd try for a bit longer on our own but they said with DH's morphology it's our best chance. It just feels strange to me after conceiving two children naturally. I know it's not the end of the world and the end result is the same I just need to get used to the idea.
Since it's a new year everything is out of pocket so I don't really know how many cycles of IUI we'll even try. I hope maybe we get lucky and the first one works.

Re: Next Stop....IUI
how bad is the morphology?? there isnt that much benefit in IUI for low morphology because the issue isnt getting the sperm where they need to go as much as it is the sperms ability to fertilize the egg because they are misshapen.
that being said it all depends on the degree of the issue. my DH had a VERY minor morphology issue and he took antioxidants. we were able to get pregnant twice with timed intercourse although both were chemical. we ended up getting pregnant with IVF but it was for other reasons, not because of the morphology.
good luck!

Maybe she is giving me bad information then. She said it will triple our chances. His morphology was 6% and she's claiming that the washing of the sperm is what's going to help us. I really don't want to spend the money if it's not going to matter. We're all good on my end. I was perfect this cycle with two perfect follies. So we're really believing the issue is lying with DH.
ETA: What did you DH take? I had all kind of stuff written down and now I can't find the paper I wrote it on.

my husband took maxi-flavone antioxidants as recommended by Dr. B. he actually invented the formula himself. he did say we could look over the ingredients and get them separately if we wanted since the supplement is expensive, but i didnt want DH to have to take a million vitamins a day.
im not a doctor but from everything ive read sperm washing only eliminates sperm with low motility, not necessarily irregular morphology. im sure she's not giving you bad information, but theres a huge difference of opinions within the fertility world on whether IUI makes any significant difference at all for low morphology. i can say that i dont know where she got her facts from, but there is no way it will triple your chances. for a completely healthy, fertile, no issue couple, IUI increases the chances of conception by 8% overall. anyway it cant hurt to try if this is what your doctor recommends as the next step. im sure you can google a million stories of people with worse morphology getting pregnant via IUI so don't lose hope!

Re: Next Stop....IUI
Thanks for replying. Yeah I definitely felt like triple our chances was a bit dramatic. I guess I'm just at the point of feeling like it can't hurt except that I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea of actually doing it. DH is fine with it. Whether we try IUI multiple times is definitely up for ALOT of discussion but I think we're on board with trying it this cycle and hoping for the best and evaluating what we're willing to do after that. I know my journey is different than a lot on this board b/c I am blessed with two children but it definitely doesn't make the desire and the frustration with the process any less. I appreciate the feedback I have gotten here.

Re: Next Stop....IUI
Honestly, I would wait until you're 100% ready and on board with doing IUI. It took me awhile to be ready, partly because I already had DD & had no problems conceiving her. but then something clicked and I knew it was time. I did injectables and it was such a huge committment between the shots and the monitoring at the crack of dawn so often...not to mention the emotional toll it takes. It took me two rounds of IUI and I was devastated when the first one didn't work. Hopefully, if you decide to do it, it will only take one try. I would say do what feels right to you.

Luckily I'm just doing a Femara IUI do no injectibles and since I responded well (issues is really DH, not me) last cycle I don't have to do any monitoring, just the IUI. I would say I'm 95% on board. I think I just have to prepare myself that this may not be our solution. KWIM. I think part of me is still feeling like if we take this step of extra help then we should get pregnant. I know I need to really prepare myself that it very well may not help us at all. And then we're faced with the decision of. Do we do it again or not and all that. I have a couple of weeks to decide b/c my protocol is the same regardless, so that makes me feel less pressure about it.

Re: Next Stop....IUI
Good luck! DH also has low morph (along with low everything else!) so IUI didn't work for us, but when I saw the #'s after the wash I knew that it was time to move onto IVF. Had we not tried that first, I would have always wondered if IUI would have worked. We were also paying out of pocket at the time so wrapping my head around paying for IVF took some time. Plus an unmonitoried IUI is not too bad at all, it's MUCH easier then a pap smear or anything like that!! If you're ready, then go for it!

IVF isn't even an option for us. No coverage and really not something we're willing to do since we're trying for a 3rd not can we pay out of pocket for it. I'm trying to remain hopeful since we conceived DD on our on the first month. DS took 8 months but it was with no interventions. DH is 3 years older and I know that can affect morphology. I also try to hold onto the fact that we are blessed with two healthy children and at some point we need to accept the blessings we have been given and move on. So for now we'll try the IUI this cycle and just take one step at a time.

That definitely changes things. It sounds like you have the right attitude about it all. I really hope it works for you.
