ever hide spinach in a meatball?

I'm trying to get more leafy greens into DH(35) and DS(9m). Since both are obsessed with meat, I think I'm going to try to hide spinach in a meatball.

Anyone ever did it, I'm thinking of using frozen chopped spinach, draining it, adding usual ingredients like soaked break and eggs, and baking them ... any other advice to make them tasty and not dry?

Re: ever hide spinach in a meatball?

yes!!! my brother wouldn't eat vegetables otherwise.. Chat Icon she used to stick spinach and bit of carrots in it.. but it would be made out of ground lamb instead of beef..

Not sure of measurements.. Chat Icon my recipies are usually a bit of this and bit of that..

I did in chix meatballs for DS - I've posted that recipe recently -

You might want to think about getting Jerry Seinfeld's wife's cookbook - deceptivly delisious - I think that's it.
She hides all sorts of vege/fruit in everything.

Have you tried a flank steak rolled w/ spinach and cheese?

maybe some soups/stews to get them used to the idea of veges?

maybe a stuffed shell w/ spinach in the cheese.

plus, if you cover a vege in cheese or a sauce... at least to get them used to it.
or fry them. I have seen fried green beans in the supermarket.

Or just tell them its basil Chat Icon

I do this all the time. I don't like green veggies at all, but I can't even taste the spinach in the meatballs. The green specs just look like herbs so no one even noticed.

Same here. I usually do brocolli but decided to give spinach a try today. I also make DS banana bread with some flax seed (for fiber) and bits of carrot. He doesn't notice!

there are two cook books out there. one of them is by jerry seinfeld's wife, i'm drawing a blank of the other one.

a former co-woker would use the recipies on her boyfriend, and he never noticed a thing

Re: ever hide spinach in a meatball?

A good way my mom yused to make my brother and I eat veggies was in soup. After the soup and veggies are done, she would put the veggies into the blender and liquify it. So they will still be getting the vegetables wether they want to or not.

I've done this with meatloaf.
I add red or green peppers, carrots, onions into meatloaf. Comes out great. I usually dice the peppers and grate the carrots

YES, Jessica Seinfeld is one.
I added puree'd cauliflower into our pasta tonight, and DH had no idea.

Re: ever hide spinach in a meatball?

I usually make chicken burgers with feta and spinach. When DS1 was little I would make the same and make little meatballs and freeze them. I'd pop a few out for lunch or dinner and defrost them. He loved them. Now DS2 eats them whenever I make the burgers. DH hates veggies too and likes these burgers as well. I also make chicken burgers with a half a jar of salsa. That counts as veggies too right? Chat Icon
I personally don't make beef meatballs with the spinach because unless it's traditional meatballs, DH won't eat them.
