Re: baby food
I have made my own and actually love doing it! I take some time on my days off to do it, and I get days if not weeks worth from a few pieces of fruit or veggies.
Gerber: $0.52 per jar or $1.06 per 2 pack (stage 2) Walmart Del Monte : $0.43 per jar (Walmart) Beech Nut: 5 for $2.00 ($0.40 each jar) supermarket
buying: bananas :$0.45 cent a lb, I give her half of one at a time...mush up with a fork till it gets pretty liquidy.
sweet potatoes :$0.39 a lb and I get 1 1/4 lb and it gives me 2 ice cube trays worth.
bag of fresh frozen peas $ carrots....I think it was close to $2 for the bag, but half the bag gave me one full ice cube tray
It's SO worth doing it yourself.
I steam them in my rice cooker w/ the steamer tray and also in a pot of lightly boiling water on the stove w/ a steamer basket (I do 2 things at once). Let it cool, mash with a potato masher or fork (or you can use a Braun hand blender or baby food processor made by DEX (at BRU or online) or a blender or regular food processor). Put in ice cube trays, put glad press n seal for freezer over it, then put cubes in freezer ziplocs or plasticware (Gladware, tupperware, etc).
