I went for an HSG yesterday
I'm not sure what to make of the info I have recieved yesterday. My right tube is blocked So the game plan is to put me on clomid to see if anything grows on my left side and then will do IUI's. This is all new to me, if anyone could shed some light forme that would be great.
Thanks

Dr. Keinsberg said it would require surgery.

i think in perfect world, the side on which you ovulate alternate every month. so, if in one month you o on right side, next one should be on the left side.

That's not exactly true. You produce follies on both sides every month. Then it's a race to produce the biggest one - whichever side it's on, the biggest follie "wins" and is ovulated. It's totally possible to ovulate on the same side 4, 5, 6, or more times in a row.
The problem for the OP is... what if she ovulates on her blocked side for several months in a row? Then she couldn't conceive on those months. Maybe with Clomid you'll produce several large-enough follies and can trigger so you'll ovulate multiple eggs and increase your chances of having one on the "right" side.
Good luck!

Re: I went for an HSG yesterday
I had the same thing, went for my HSG and my left side showed a blockage. My Dr said due to the location of the blockage (no dye went in at all), it could either be a blockage at the top of the tube where it meets the uterus or it could be my uterus spasming and that's why the dye did not go into the tube. I can tell you what my dr advised and what I decided.
I had 2 options, try to unblock the tube or just try medicated IUIs and hope to produce follicles on the right side each time (and move onto IVF if that doesn't work - IVF bypasses the tubes). My dr advised that due to my age (I am on the young side for IF), the fact that this would be my first child (we would love to have more than one) and the blockage was at the top of the tube, we should try to remove the blockage. I agreed with her. I didn't want the scenario of always wondering "what if". They did a repeat HSG first and my tube was definitely blocked. They then removed the blockage with a small wire. They retested with dye and the blockage was gone. (FM me if you want more details on this procedure)
After this procedure, I did another unmedicated IUI and then I did a clomid IUI. On clomid, I had 2 follicles on the left and 2+ on the right. I got a BFP. Unfortunately, it was ectopic and I lost my left tube entirely. I honestly think my left tube was damaged to begin with and the procedure was not to blame. Your chance of ectopic pregnancy increases if you have surgery like this (something to keep in mind).
I had several more IUIs after the ectopic and all failed. I have since moved onto IVF. I must also say that my choice for the surgery and IUIs was also influenced by my insurance coverage. My insurance covered the surgery and all IUIs but I have no IVF coverage. So for me, it was worth a shot. I do not regret my decision to have the surgery.
Sorry this is so long. Just wanted to share what I have gone through. Feel free to FM me anytime if you have any questions or just want to vent. Good luck with whatever you decide. I am so sorry you are going through this.
