You can take a paper towel and lay it in between each plate. Also take paper towels and scrunch them in between the glasses so that they don't hit against each other.

I usually use newspapers -- a couple of pages around each dish or inside & around each glass. I use crumpled newspaper to fill in empty spaces -- or sometimes I'll use dishtowels or something for extra cushion.

Well I go overboard.
I've moved 20x's and have perfected it. For glasses & dishes... if you are buying boxes go to a storage place they sell a moving kit with a few boxes & bubble wrap & also a special glasses/dishes box.
If not I would go to staples or maybe the dollar store and get bubble wrap. I put a piece btw, each plate, As for glasses I put on sheet on the bottom then wrap + tape a small strip around each glass and stand them up. As long as all the strips are the same height they wont clink into each other. I've also just used newspaper. To save $$ most of my other stuff all gets wrapped in newspaper.

Re: getting ready to move, i have a packing ?...
I've moved a bunch of times and will be doing it again in a few weeks time. We've always used sturdy card board boxes that aren't too big (as the dishes can get heavy when you pile them in there) and wrap them in plain unprinted newspaper. They sell it at most U-Haul/Budget truck rental locations or online. Just give em a call - $8.00 for a box that did 3 sets of dishes and since it was plain paper I didn't have to scrub the dishes or my hands from newspaper ink when we moved in...plus it took up less space than bubble wrap
You might also want to check out these moving kits! We got one at Costco for $50 and it's worked out well for us
Allied Moving Kit : 15 small boxes, 10 medium and 10 large 4lbs of white packing paper, bubble wrap, foam sleeves, two pens and 3 glass dividers which fit in the small boxes for glasses and cups.
**not enough paper & bubble wrap for most moves but it's a good start!

We used the specially designed boxes from u-haul
They are set up for dishes or glasses and come with cushioned wrapping. We didn't break a thing using them.
