Chemical - UGH!!!

I am most likely having another chemical pregnancy. I was never able to do a fresh transfer due to OHSS, so the past 2 FET's have both resulted in chemicals. I don't know where to go from here. I am just so devastated and have given up on the process! How do you know when it is time to switch doctors? What about if you can't see yourself moving on and ever giving yourself another injection? It just feels like it is time to move on to other avenues but since we pay for everything and do not officially have a diagnosis, no one will tell us it is time to move on. Sorry for the vent, just extremely sadChat Icon

I am so sorry. This must be so hard for you. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

If you really can't see yourself moving on or ever giving yourself another injection, maybe it would help to take a break? Even just a one-month break to feel like yourself again. IF is so mentally and physically draining. If you were training for a marathon you'd have to give yourself "off" days; you wouldn't push yourself every day or you'd end up hurting yourself in the long run, you know?

I'm sorry this is happening to you and hope for good things for you soon. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Chemical - UGH!!!

im sorry!!! i had two chemicals also although both were the result of medicated cycles, not IVF/FET.

have you been tested for clotting and immune issues? these seem to be the top causes of repeat chemicals, so if you have had two you should def get tested. many of these issues are treatable and can prevent recurrent losses.

good luck and dont give up!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Chemical - UGH!!!

I also have had 2 chemicals from my last 2 FET's. It sucks. They haven't really given me any answers, only that the embryo was likely chromosomally abnormal. I've never been tested for clotting or immune factors so I guess that is something I also need to discuss with them. We still have some frozen embryos so I plan on doing a natural FET to give myself a break from the meds. I'm so sorry you are going through this too, it's just not fair Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have an underlying autoimmune disease so I have been tested for clotting issues. What other immune issues does one normally get tested for? I took a baby asprin this cycle but not last cycle. Very disappointing! Although it was nice getting my first 2 BFP's ever it made it all the worse emotionally that it didn't work out.

if you have a known autoimmune disease this could DEF be the cause and you should be see an RE that specializes in immunology. many chemicals are caused by the mothers immune system rejecting the embryo(s) at the time of implantation. our immune systems should shut off when an embryo is implanting but if there are autoimmune factors a host of different immune cells may not be working and communicating properly, causing our immune systems to target the embryo instead of allowing it to safely implant, thus resulting in chemicals. most issues can be treated with intralipids, IVIG, and/or steroid treatments.

its really important to see an RE that believes in immunological causes of recurrent miscarriage because although there is a TON of research on it, many REs still don't "believe" that the immune system plays a role in pregnancy loss. keeping in mind i am not a doctor or in the medical field in any way other than a patient - i think the fact that you already have a known autoimmune issue makes it more likely that this is the cause of your chemicals as opposed to chromosomal defect of the embryos.

once again, so sorry you have to go through this, but there are doctors out there who can help!! good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Chemical - UGH!!!

I'm right there with you. I am unexplained, and i have also had 2 losses, 1 chemical after IVF and one m/c, after a FET. No one has any answers as to why, but after the first loss, i was treated with steroids and intralipids after my immune testing came back with slightly elevated NK cells, still no luck.

I changed doctors after the 2nd loss. It was time for a fresh set of eyes. I went on some consults, did LOTS of research and some resting and will go back for another IVF after the holidays. Time DOES heal.

Getting back on the horse is VERY scary, but NOT getting back on is worse, to me. Everyone decisions are so personal, so no advice there, just lots of hugs.Chat Icon
