for those that moved out of state
did anyone moved without any money saved? I just feel like it would take us years before we could actually move.
I'm just so fed up with living in new york and having to struggle so much.

Re: for those that moved out of state
Dh and I are moving and we are saving for the down payment on our home. We are not going to move with alot of savings (the house will eat that up). I think if you find a job before you move you should be fine. Good luck!!!

Re: for those that moved out of state
You need *some* savings. We had 401K's (we were leaving the companies and didn't roll over) so we were OK since there was no money post-wedding.
If either of you doesn't have a job from here, then you need to definitely have $$ for bills, food, etc.
But what happened with school?
FM if you want to talk...God bless you chica!!

Re: for those that moved out of state
DH and I are moving next year. We'll have about 12k in savings after buying a house, plus his 401k. We also have to spend some of our savings on cars once we move, so that took a decent chunk out

I know...it's really hard in NY!! There are schools EVERYWHERE! It's just a matter of deciding where. Def getting jobs before the move helps!!

My dh and I thought about moving somewhere else where life would be easier etc last year b/c it seemed like we were getting nowhere in NY. But we didn't because of the diversity you see in NY you don't see anywhere else except areas where you get the same thing as NY--high cost of living. So we decided to stay.
But we've known a lot of people who have left NY b/c of this. Apparently when you move to areas that are more rural, they also give you mortgage loans easier. We had a friend who bought a house in VA when she moved there. She bought the house with no job, okay credit 650, and no money down and closing included in mortgage. So if you do this, you can plan on less savings. But personally I'd be scared to relocate without having a good $20K at least and go there after already finding a job (one of you). Oh yea, here's some advice for job hunting. Get a cell phone in the area you are looking for. When my dh searched nobody would call him until he put that number on it. He had job offers right away but of course nowhere near what he makes here.

Re: for those that moved out of state
We came to FL with just our clothes and our ferrets.
Our move was a bit of a surprise. We knew we were coming down to FL just didnt know when. DH had put in for his transfer but we didnt know it would be approved in less then a month. Then on a Sunday evening he gets a phone call "Ok be at RSW in 1 week at 1400 hours"
So in less then 1 week we had to break things down and pack up. I moved in with my parents for a month and went back and forth to the apartment to just finish things up.
We stayed with our friends for a while then got an apartment for a few months.
I dont know about other states, but their are some builders in my area that great for first time home buyers. Some builders have the no money down, no money at closing option. The builder may cover a percentage of the closing costs and they'll everything else into your mortgage. The only money that may have to be provided is to cover the cost of the permits and paperwork with the title people.
Their are a lot of things out there for first time home buyers and helping them with purchasing a home.

Re: for those that moved out of state
our truck rental for a 10 ft budget was 1700.00 other then that and buying a car(we were a carless couple) expenses hasn't been too bad.
