Medroxyprogesterone?
Is anyone familiar with this?
Background story: My gyno told me that I have PCOS and that I will not be able to get pregnant on my own and referred me to a RE.
I went to RE got a whole bunch of blood work done (which all came out ok) and she does not have any real answers as to why I don't ovulate (I do not get my period at all without being on birth control). I went off of BC back in May and have not gotten my period since.
She just prescribed me to this drug to try and start up my periods. Is it a type of BC or can I get pregnant on it?

I am confused here too  This is a drug that you will take for a SHORT time.. .Your prescription should either be for 5.. 7.. or 10 days. Once you stop, you will get your period within 3-7 days.
If you are seeing an RE and she says you do not ovulate and will need help, etc. then I assume she should want you to come back on CD3 of your period brought on by this medication. Then she should start you on drugs that will cause you to produce follicles and ovulate.

provera (medroxyprogesterone) is a med you take for 5-10 days after periods of anolvulation when you dont get AF. at the tail end of the pills or a few days after the last pill, you will get AF. you wont get pregnant on it because you arent ovulating on your own, and you wont be ovulating during the time you are on it. you would already be off of it once AF comes so you wont be ovulating while you are on it. you def have to be sure you arent pregnant before taking it, its not good for a developing baby and can cause m/c.
if you arent ovulating at all then you will need meds for that, and an RE will give you that protocol and monitor your progress.
also, just because you have PCOS doesnt mean you can never conceive without help. sometimes with PCOS you will ovulate sporadically, just not consistently. whenever you ovulate you have an opportunity to get pregnant.

Thanks for the info!!!
My gyno told me I will not be able to get pregnant without help b/c I don't ovulate at all.. the RE said that my lining is thin but she has no real reason why I don't ovulate.. my ovaries are just not getting the signal from my brain (or something like that).. She said i would have to start with clomid and then go from there.. i'm just confused as to what this medication was for.. so thanks for the explanation!
