Re: gluten free thanksgiving items
We tried to do a GF thanksgiving two years ago for DH but his parents were NOT helpful. They cross-contaminated SO MUCH FOOD.
Whole foods has a lot of great options like breads and pies that are already made so you won't have to do anything. There are also a lot of recipes online for GF options like stuffing (I made waaaay too much that year!).
WF also has a GF gravy. I highly recommend it. Regular gravy is made with flour so it's definitely not celiac friendly.
Depending on how severe her case is, though, you'd have to make sure NO flour gets anywhere near her plate or anything she's going to eat.
I think I did green beans (no fried onions lol), carrots, GF stuffing, mashed potatoes (which were GF and dairy free), and he had turkey, which he loves. I just asked my FIL not to put the regular "stuffing" inside because that would've contaminated the tkrye.
Good luck & have a great Thanksgiving!

Re: gluten free thanksgiving items
This will be my 4th gluten free thanksgiving and will be my first time cooking..(ahh).
But dont worry - it's easy!
Stuffing: these croutons are amazing!
They sell this brand at most Stop & Shops or Whole Foods (or the Diet Shop in Ronkonkoma) If the bird is to be stuffed, it has to be stuffed with GF stuffing or else it's automatically contaminated.
Vegetables at their natural state are GF. (Even the birdseye steamers are usually okay - read the labels..) If you make any type of cream (flour) sauce for on top of the veggies - serve grandma first then top the veggies.
Bisquick makes a GF mix- biscuits made from the batter are delicious!!!
Stuffed mushrooms - try annieseats.com, theres a recipe that doesnt require breadcrumbs.
Mashed potatoes are fine with milk, butter, salt.
Gravy can be done - but you need to find a GF flour. I'm skipping out on it, cause i could care less about gravy. But anywho the Diet Shop in Ronkonkoma sells an amazzzing all purpose flour (its $11 for 2 lbs, which sucks) It's called Better Batter.
Rice Chex: apparently you can make rice krispie treats with them.. im trying it for the first time this year.
Like others have said, you just have to be careful about cross contamination.
If you have any specific questions on how to change things or what not, dont hesitate to ask. GF is my life and im more than happy to help..especially since i know what its like to sit at the AuntILs and only be able to eat broccoli & potatoes.
