so someone gave me an "LV" bag at work today
it's black. with the LV in colors all over it.
I am sure it's fake. but it comes with a serial number and the special "protective" bag.
any tell tale signs I should look for.
I don't know where he got it from, but he's a super sweet man. he's also given me perfume before.
he's not a dirty man just very kind. I am just curious about the bag. I need to prove it's fakeness so I can feel better about this.

Where did he get this bag? Did he just buy it for you?
Anyways, I would try purseforum.com. You can authenticate bags there.

Wow that is awesome!
I know that on real ones the straps turn brownish--but that takes time.
Maybe call an LV store give them the serial # or bring it in to a store?
You can usually just tell...if it is not obvious that it is fake assume it's real! If you can't tell how can anyone else

Re: so someone gave me an "LV" bag at work today
I have ZERO experience with LV bags. my friends have them I've never really touched one.
I am almost certain it's fake...just trying really hard to fool me.
the funnest part of this whole thing ( ) is telling my dh that some dude gave me a brand new bag.

Re: so someone gave me an "LV" bag at work today
I am not an expert on authenticating these bags but there are some LIFers who really are. The main thing I know is that the design on a real bag will always line up. So if there is a seam in the bag, the pattern continues as if it is one continuous piece of canvas. I hope that makes sense. I love the fact that my LV bag goes with anything, or at least I feel that it is always a good enough match for any outfit, work or pleasure unless I am wearing a very busy print. I'm not crazy about the fakes because of the whole sweatshop issue and because the well done fakes are still pricey. If they are 1/4 the price of a real one, that is still a lot to pay for anything that isn't authentic. I guess I would use and enjoy it if I got one as a gift, though but I am not sure. And maybe yours is real anyway.

I'm no expect, but I do know that on a real one the seam will never cross a monogram

I could be wrong, but aren't the LVs supossed to be upside down on real ones because they use one piece of leather for the whole bag?
Here is a picture that might help even though it's not the same pattern as you have.

this was sooo helpful! so based on what you guys have said, it is, as I suspected, a pretty decent fake.
funny thing is, I would for a federal law enforcement agency..we prosecute for fakes
I am not keeping it. it's just not me. my little sister will probably like it though.
thanks all!
dh actually asked me if I could now return the very real and gorgeous leather bag he bought me in Florence two weeks ago.
that would be a big NO.
thanks again!

Re: so someone gave me an "LV" bag at work today
The seams should line up. On fakes, they are all over the place and cut off. On a real one, they can be cut off in certain areas, but they are still symmetrical, if that makes sense.
Really plastic-ky feeling handles that are super light tan.
I believe those are either made in USA or Spain even. Not in Paris.
If it is Speedy shaped, it should be one long piece of canvas-one side the LVs should be upside down.
