Do you take them to the doctor for a cough?

This is the third time Megan has been sick since starting school. It started out as a cold..but shes not stuffy anymore, her nose isnt running, no fever, no pain. But she has a BAD cough.

I usually dont take her for a cough because it usually signals the end of the cold but now I am wondering if I should because she has had it since Saturday.

Do you take your kids to the doctor for ONLY a cough or let them ride it out. Its a wet cough, not dry if that makes a difference.

Personally, and this is only with experience, I now wait a while to take them in, since my girls have had croupy-type coughs without any other symptoms that have lasted WEEKS (sometimes they only cough at night), but there is nothing the doctor can do.

DD started out like this...every tiny sniffle became a bad cough...it turned out she has asthma. So now I always take her when the cough starts.

I have one kid with asthma and 1 without.

The one with it goes in right away. I wait a while with the other.

I used to but it was normally a waste and they sent us home with no meds so I usually wait it out.

Depends on how bad the cough sounds. I use to wait it out unless I felt like it was travelling. If it sounds like it isn't throaty - more lungs - I take my sons it or if it lingers more than 5 or so days (depending on how it sounds and what else they have going on). My one son usually gets throat infections from a drip and that is what causes cough so I try to wait a little less with him.

I wait it out. Even with a cold. But the second she complains about any other symptoms I take her in. Last year when she started pre-k the colds turned into ear infections several times.
