Birthday party Q- Do we stay ?

My DS was invited to a kindergarten classmates b-day party at the childs home....The party is only 1.5 hours Chat Icon

I don't know these people ( DH met the dad at another b-day party, but thats all)

What do we do ? Stay or drop off ?

The mom seems a bit of a flake ( nice but flaky Chat Icon ) She called 2 weeks ago for our address and then called today to say that she forgot to mail the invites and the party is Saturday Chat Icon ! Then she proceeded to tell me that she was going to make the party an hour but thought that was too short ( um, yeah ya think?) and that 2 hours was too long Chat Icon

Re: Birthday party Q- Do we stay ?

Stacey, I had the same Q for G's first preschool party b/c it didn't say anything--but I didn't know the mom/kid at all. I stayed; all the parents did. I would assume they would expect parents to stay being that the kids are only 5---but maybe I'm assuming wrong? But especially if its only 1 1/2.

Re: Birthday party Q- Do we stay ?

Hmm...5 and don't know them? You should plan to stay! For my DDs 7th bday I told parents for the 1st time since having parties that they can stay or feel free to drop off their child and only 2 of 7 parents dropped the kids off. It was at my place but most parents had not been here before and didn't know us well.

Ok, thats was what I thought (to stay)...I feel better about doing that anyway

I guess because its at a house and so short I thought the mother would have specified it to me, but then again she doesn't seem to be too organnized Chat Icon

I would stay and most parties at places are either 1.5 to 2 hours long so I don't see the time being that strange.

Yeah, I've been to many party places where the time slot is 1.5-2 hours, but never a home party..

We just had a party at home and I specifically made the party 2 hours. The parents dropped off their kids (they are all 7, some turning 8 in a few months).

I have never heard of a kids party without a time limit. They are usually less than two hours whether at home of in a place. There is only so long people can keep our kids entertained. LOL

Ok....I guess all my friends and famiy have parties that are 3 hours and up when in a home....As well as all the parties I myself performed at ( I was in the childrens entertainment business for
8+ years) ....1.5 hours seems short to "me", not my party though whatever.

Not quite sure how my original question got de-railed here, but such as life on LIF .....

I would probably stay if I did not trust any of the other parents enough to watch my kids. I don't know though because I no my neighbors have had drop-off parties at their houses since kindergarten or first grade. You are really at the borderline age.

Yep, 2 hours was more than enough. We got lucky it was nice out too as I don't know what I would have done with 15 kids in my small house.

When you have 15 kids, small house and no parents, there has to be a time limit-lol!!

Re: Birthday party Q- Do we stay ?

So if anyone was curious, the party was today...

Of the 12'ish kids that were there (all from DS's class) only myself and two other moms stayed !

I don't think the birthday boys mom really intended on the parents to stay
( she kind of stopped me at the front door as my DS ran in to play) I continued to make idle chit chat with her and then she said, it's up to you if you want to stay or go...I told her I would ask my DS ( I knew what his answer would be otherwise I wouldn't have asked Chat Icon ) and I stayed...I was glad I did because it seemed like things were a little chaotic ( one of the boys was climbing across the TOP of her swingset unsupervised and I was having heart palipitations Chat Icon ), and there were a few kids out on the front lawn ...

Musical chairs, pin the tail, decorate a cookie, pinata, then cake....Mission complete
