am I eating too much?

I posted a couple of days ago about putting on a lot of weight in the past couple of weeks. I'm sure part of the gain was being on a cruise, so now that I'm back to the real world I'm trying to take more control over what I'm eating. I'm eating fairly healthy, but maybe I'm eating too much?! This is a sample day for me, tell me if you think it's too much...
BREAKFAST - 2 bowls of Cornflakes and fat free milk
SNACK- yogurt
LUNCH- a big fruit salad
SNACK- Crackers and a slice of cheese OR rice cake with peanut butter
DINNER- tacos or turkey burgers or chicken (it varies)
SNACK- more fruit or a 100 Cal Pack of cookies

* and then there are usually a few things thrown in, based on what's in the house. A couple of Starbursts, a sliver of cake that I made for company, yogurt covered pretzels, etc... (and not like I have all of that extra every day.)

I was just going to say the same thing ... after reading your menu Nicole, I feel like a slob Chat Icon

I think you are eating perfectly though - 3 meals plus healthy snacks. Not too much at all . It could just be that you are having a growth spurt and things will level off soon .. I know that many ladies have said this happenes to them (they have a big gain month or so, then back to only a pound a month, etc)

I also think that you are not eating enough. Although the fruit salad is very good at lunch, you definately need more protein. Plus, depending on the fruits you are eating, lots of them have a bunch of sugar. I only know this because I was told by my nutritionist that I was not eating enough.

I also am gaining a lot of weight quickly. I am seeing a nutritionist and writing down everything I eat. Although I am not perfect, and sometimes I have ice cream or like last night cookies, I am definately eating much more healthy than I was pre-pregnancy. However, I can't stop gaining so much weight Chat Icon

I think that if you are destined to gain lots of weight, there is nothing you could do about it.

From your mouth to God's ears. I've been feeling like such a porko I can't take it. I've been gaining like 2 pounds a week for the past couple of weeks. All of a sudden I'm up 15-16 pounds. I hate it!!!

It's not always fruit salad, that was just a sample of some days. Sometimes I have either a turkey sandwich or pizza or California rolls for lunch.

Re: am I eating too much?

Considering that my diet consists of pizza, egg and cheese sandwiches, cheetos, grilled cheese, cookies and cake...you're doing great!

Re: am I eating too much?

I ate soo much while I was pregnant. Somehow, I still managed to stay in the range the dr wanted me in - I gained about 32 lbs. Try not to worry so much about the weight gain - I delivered a week and a half ago and have lost all but 4 lbs! (not dieting or anything) From what you listed, you are eating a good amount - not too much not too little. I think you are doing just fine! I had many weeks that I put a lot of weight on and then it seemed to taper off towards the end.

Re: am I eating too much?

Good for you! That's healthy eating!! But I think you need a lot more protein. I am on a diet from a dietician for my GD, and they have me eating a little protein at breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before I go to bed. I would say that you should probably have more at lunch. Peanut butter is a good source, just don't eat too much of it! And of course chicken, beef or eggs. Can you have a green salad with chicken and some beans for lunch with a small piece of fruit rather than a fruit salad- so many carbs in that. Keep up the calcium, I never realized how important that was until I saw the dietician.

You're certainly eating better than me! I'm on the "seefood" diet. I know I certainly didn't gain 32lbs in 30wks from eating yogurt and rice cakes! Chat Icon

Well I am carrying twins so i need to eat more, but i agree with the other girls you should be eating more protein. Usually what i do is have cottage cheese (lots of protein) with cereal or an egg sandwhich for breakfast.

Usually turkey and cheese for lunch. Sometime pizza (has cheese on it).

Dinner i am open to whatever but lately its hamburgers, chicken, or pasta.

I also have ice cream every day. It's my treat and sometimes a bag of M&M's.

I made a bag of my favorite nuts and leave those in my desk - another great source of protein! I do remember my doctor specifically saying to eat lots of protein, not sure why but I have protein with every meal (egg whites for breakfast and sometimes grilled turkey breast).

Re: am I eating too much?

I"ll try to get a little more protein in the mix- maybe that will keep me from being hungry every two hours. Chat Icon
Unfortunately, I know that eggs are a good source but I absolutely despise them, so that's out. I do eat a decent amount of veggies too, so I get protein and nutrients from that as well. The menu I listed is just a sample day, not my every day diet.

Re: am I eating too much?

I think protein in the morning would help -

scrambled eggs? hummus?
