Re: screaming problem

I'm having the same problem, Julia will be a year in 2 weeks and she just screams now for anything she wants, we went out to dinner last night and she wanted some of the bread on the table, well she just started to yell on the top of her lungs, my DH was so embarrassed and was like tell her to be quiet (yeah like shes gonna listen) I just had to keep giving her what she wanted just to keep her quiet its horrible! At home I don't tolerate it, I tell her NO in a stern voice and it seems to help, but when we are out I'm not going to yell in front of other people (crazy woman)Chat Icon

Re: screaming problem

you have to ignore it...not even laugh...no attention. As soon as he stops screaming give him all the attention he wants.

It's the age unfortunately. Completely normal. He is trying to get your attention. Just try to divert his attention to something else..

Whatever you do, don't scream back! lol it doesn't make it any better.

Start using words. Say things like "Juice? You want JUICE." Then he'll get the concept that he needs to say "Juice", then when he gets "Juice", you move on to "Mommy, I WOULD LIKE juice."

Well, that's the way it worked for me. WHo knows, I've been winging it but my kids use their words Chat Icon

Mallory is a screecher and this is how we handle it, anytime she screams for something we just repeat whatever it is she wants or just say "Please" and she's slowly catching on to it... unfortunately for my ear drums not completely resolved of it yet.Chat Icon

Have you tried to teach him sign language? Its so hard for them when they know what they want but cant communicate clearly. You can start with simple signs like eat, drink, up, down. Jack learned a few and it really helped.

Re: screaming problem

Try to teach him different ways of asking for things. Baby sign language is a great way to do it. Melanie is almost a year old and we've taught her to say baba for her drink and to make a fisat if she wants to eat. If he's screaming because he wants something and you've told him no, do not give it to him. Then he'll just scream everytime you tell him no.
