Infertility/TTC on TV
Has anyone else noticed that there is a preponderance of TTC and infertility plots on television lately? Has it always been this way, and am I just sensitive to it these days?
On How I Met Your Mother, Lily and Marshall are trying, and got nervous after their SECOND try didn't work
On One Tree Hill, Brooke was told that she can't have children. My favorite line of this season was when her boyfriend said, "Let's go to the bedroom so that I can romance your ovaries until they surrender."
On Grey's Anatomy tonight, Meredith found out that she had a "hostile uterus".
There were others, but those are the ones that come to mind right now. I tell DH that we're trendy! Gotta laugh when we can, right?
Of course, it's going to piss me off when all the issues are resolved by the end of the season and everyone is PG!

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
I know what you mean....infertility has been becoming very common over the past few years... A big shock is the 40% decline in sperm count over the second half of the 20th century It is presumed that it's because of adverse effects of environmental or lifestyle factors.... That doesn't shock me...

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
I think these issues are becoming more mainstream. They seem to be catching more spotlight than before.
I do think that we are more sensitive to seeing these issues arise, but they are def being written into more scripts for shows, etc.
I also feel like fertility issues are very common; however, there seems to be more and more people with these issues than 20 years ago.....

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
Totally!!! Seems like every TV show and movie I watch has IF in it. To add to your list "Rules Of Engagement", couple last season were trying IVF and it didn't work. So episode one of this season they were looking for a surrogate. Of course their friend (David Spade) ends up sleeping with their surrogate (which was stupid because no one would use a surrogate that did not already successfully have a child-I know, its just a TV show...lol) and ruins it for them. Now they are looking into adoption.
Sometimes I'm watching a movie and enjoying it and then....and I'm like come on I'm watching to escape all this...lol...

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
Yes, I have noticed....ALOT!
Also, Rules of Engagement (not sure if anyone watches) although pretty funny show. They are going thru IF as well. Actually, they are at a part now where they are trying to find donor eggs.
I dont know if its b/c IF is becoming more common these days.......which to be honest, is VERY Scary.
I wish I was an adult in the 70's or 80's so I didnt have this issue. LOL

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
I just read this weeks edition of Life and Style mag and there's an article about Khloe Kardashian trying to have a baby. There's a quote that says - 'Lamar is so intent on starting a family that he's even bought Khloe a fertility monitor to gauge when she's ovulating, and they're timing their efforts accordingly'. 'Khloes been using the monitor for a month now, so she should be pregnant very soon'

Re: Infertility/TTC on TV
It seems to be EVERYWHERE now. I think because it is now something that unfortunately is more common, people are not scared to talk about it or for it to be on TV. Sometimes it is great to put it out there and help the women who feel ashamed or embarrassed about IF; I know I felt that way when we made the decision to meet with our RE and accept that we needed help in that area.
Tell me, WHY was I watching Baby Mama last night, and WHY was I crying. Now that I think about it I laugh, but not last night.
Thanks Jackie, I am going to use that line on DH tonight. Come on Baby, romance my ovaries!!!
