WW-did anyone hear about the changes?

They had the big training session this weekend for all the leaders and, like every year, they are modifying plan for the new year.

Normally, I don't think it is such a big deal, but from what our leader told us, they are using protein, fiber, fat and card to determine points (no more calories) and fruit is free.

I don't know how this is going to work for me. Honestly, if the old plan is still working by the time the changes come around, I'm going to stick with the old way of calculating points.

wow...that's interesting...i find it odd that fruit will be free. I mean yes it's lower in calories than a chocolate bar but it is all carbohydrates. Very interesting!

I'm so glad they're including protein in the formula! Although, I think its strange they would not include calories and fruit is "free"? I guess we'll have to wait and see what the new changes bring!

If the old plan works for you then don't change. I lost my weight back when they had the core program.....I will never switch to points. Just do what works for you.

Hmm, not counting calories seems very strange to me...aren't calories the main factor in gaining/losing weight? I will have to wait and see when it's announced but will probably give it a try for a few weeks and if I don't like it, back to Points I will go!

I lost 40 lbs 6 years ago and the points. I joined again last week and in my first week lost 5.6 lbs. I am not changing. I will still go to the meetings but I am going to stick with what works best for me.

To me it sounds like they will still be counting calories, just in a more effective way. Protein, fat and carbohydrates have a set amount of calories regardless of where they come from. Protein contains 4 calories per gram, carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram and fat contains 9 calories per gram. So I gram of fat from olive oil or from lard has the same caloric content.

However, not all calories are created equal. 50 calories of protein is going to be used by your body differently than 50 calories of fudge. This was the problem I always had with WW, I went to many meetings over the years, had many different leaders and they never stressed the importance of nutrition. Sure, there were the 8 healthy guidelines, but they are not enough and were glossed over in most of the groups I belonged too.

Hopefully this new point system will help members to focus more on the importance of macro nutrients, rather than just points.

Re: WW-did anyone hear about the changes?

ITA with the above its the main reason why i stopped doing WW because all of a sudden I became 30 and nothing worked. They kept blaming me for not doing the program correctly but i was, my body changed.

Protein & Carbs has a considerable affect on my weight more so then just calories alone.

Re: WW-did anyone hear about the changes?

I lost almost all of my weight on the Core program, which was kinda-sorta fused into the newer Points system as "Simply Filling", but I never caught on with that. I stuck with Core, which was already a huge b astard to talk about in meetings because no one seemed to follow it regularly (hence why it was fused into the Momentum Points, I believe) and once I reached Lifetime, I stopped going to meetings regularly. They worked for me until I lost all the weight, and then I skipped town. IMO, WW does very little for Lifetime members. Sure, we get free meetings, but it's just the same stuff over and over. I'd rather go to one Lifetime-centered meeting a month than one regular meeting a week with the same info given over and over.

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge WW supporter and they helped me learn a lot. I just don't see much planning from them in terms of handling Lifetime members.

Re: WW-did anyone hear about the changes?

I'm interested to see how they work it out. I can't imagine them doing it without calories. I think it would be the sliding scale with protein and carbs added in maybe. And while I would love fruit to be zero points I just don't think that's realistic. Unless they are limiting you on how much fruit you have each day.

ITA with this. I really wish there were specific meetings for lifetime members. Maybe they just don't have enough willing to attend meetings?

I stopped going to meetings because they didnt seem to pertain to me...like you, I wish they had something more centered to lifetime members and maitantence.

then you need to find a different mtg. The mtg i used to go to probably had 10-15 lifetimers in it and the leader would use us to motivate others but also talk to us about keeping it off.

Its all about the leader

I tried that; I reached Lifetime two years ago. Spent some time scouring for a new meeting and didn't find anything that clicked for me within my schedule...joined a Pilates class instead during my old WW meeting slot and found a message board (not the WW one) that focused on Lifetime members.

I miss my old leader, but not enough to give up Pilates each week.
